We have had relatively healthy interest this year. At this point we are around 75%-80% of the total participation levels of last year. A lot of the participants have PM'd me directly without commenting on the thread. I think more people responded to the thread last year because we started late and people were relieved we were doing it at all.
Here here. Whenever I wonder about the amount and level of participants here on cointalk ancients, I'm never disappointed.
I went through at least 7 pages of threads posted by my Saturnalia recipient and do believe I have chosen what I think will fit their interest and also fill their wants on at least two of the items I picked. I sent it out yesterday and should arrive next week. I hope everyone will post pics of their gifts this year, last year a lot of the gifts were not shared with everyone , it would be nice to see all of the nice gifts.
Target acquired, coins selected, accompanying gifts ordered. Looking forward to pack and ship the gifts once all the pieces are in hand.
Part of the joy of something like this is that it can expand your horizons. It is unlikely that someone can find the perfect "missing coin" for your collection. Instead they can offer a supplement, a different view, a new angle on your collection or the hobby as a whole.
According to the info I have from the tracking stuff, Secret Santa has delivered a parcel in my giftee's mail box earlier today : being always anxious when kids are travelling, I'm now relieved ... And this thread is on page 1 again Q
I found my Secret Saturn's gift in my mailbox this morning. Fortunately I was able to resist the temptation to open it immediately. It will be a long wait until December 17! My own gift is on its way to and will be mailed soon. Hopefully I found the right coin for my giftee... To keep this bump visually appealing, here is the coin I received for last year's Saturnalia. It is a treasured part of my collection, and I am still stunned by my Secret Saturn's coin taste and generosity: Septimius Severus, Roman Empire, AR denarius, 202–210 AD, Rome mint. Obv: SEVERVS PIVS AVG; head of Septimius Severus, laureate, r. Rev: INDVLGENTIA AVGG IN CARTH; Dea Caelestis, draped, riding r. on lion, holding thunderbolt in r. hand and sceptre in l. hand; below, water gushing from rock. 19mm, 3.32g. Ref: RIC IV Septimius Severus 266.
A box popped up at our place, which I eagerly unpacked up until reaching the internal packaging that gave an astronomical clue on what the package is about (see below). Therefore, I am now in the waiting game, looking forward to the Saturnalia festivities. Thanks a lot to my Secret Saturn: very much looking forward to unwrap it completely! My own package is on its way to the chosen one, hopefully bringing similar tension and positive feelings. Fun fact. Besides the "Saturn" the planet, there is also a natural satellite orbiting Jupiter that is called "Io" (http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/moons/jupiter-moons/io/overview/), so:
I just received the final portion of my gift and hope to get everything into the mail on Monday .. then the nerves set in. Will it arrive on time, will they like it?? ----- On another note I picked up this tin of cookies at Costco yesterday.. I think the tin on its own is worth the $9.. a Saturnalia treat for myself!
@Curtisimo - how "secret" is the Secret Saturnalia? As a rule...? Do we have the option to reveal ourselves after the day (or maybe when coin gifts are posted?) - or no? Good either way - just don't want to break any rules. I don't even think I want to reveal - I am just soo freaking nervous about this!!!! I didn't have concerns in previous years - but 2020.. My gift will either be the perfect fit or a colossal fail..uuugghhh
For non-US posters, such as me and some others, even trying to remain secret is pointless, thus I don't even try : I'm pretty sure my parcel is the only one stamped from France ! But I'm not bothered : we're (hopefully) sending nice things, aren't we ? Q
Ave All, I am one of the ones who is participating but didn't post in the thread. I figured I should just so that people don't get worried about lack of participation (not that I am going to make or break it! lol). I mailed my gift out on Monday but after just checking the tracking, it seems to have sat at the local post office until last night when it started moving. Never the less, it should arrive before Saturnalia! Now comes the waiting and anxiety lol.
Might I suggest to everyone participating that when your gift arrives, just post a note saying just that. I sent my gift out nearly two weeks ago, but I have no idea if it has arrived or is languishing somewhere in the postal system.
