If I wanted to live in Sarasota, FL (or Florida at all) I might be interested in a few positions here :) They do have a remote customer service position listing, but according to the posting you still need to live near Sarasota, FL.

    Thanks for posting anyway.

Something tells me that the "most competitive salaries in the collectibles industry" are really nothing to write home about.

... or move to Florida over... Sound like dream jobs otherwise...

Could be. But graders typically start at 6 figures and I've known of some who were paid $250k annual. Everybody has their own definitions but I'd define that as being pretty competitive.

I crack open every slab I buy and set the coin free! Would they still hire me? Maybe for crossover submissions?

Serious question, what kind of education or skills do you need to be a grader?

For graders yes, that is a specialized skill position. The other positions they list, probably not so much. They may be competitive, but probably not worth moving to Florida for.

Well, if collectors like me weren't such stingy people, maybe they'd get paid better?

The only problem is having to live in Florida. No thanks.

If ya mean degrees, none required that I know of. Skills ? Be able to grade the way they want ya to grade. If you can do that, you got a job.

Some years ago, it was said among PCGS graders, that the best guy they had at the time was 18 years old. And ya won't have had time to get any advanced education at that age - but he could do the job and it was said he was the best at the job. And yes it was a PCGS grader who told me all this. And yes he was a member of this forum at the time he told me. 'Course I don't think anybody but me knew that. And no, I won't say if he still is a member of this forum - or not.

But I think that answers your question.

Don't you think they run their grading competitions at least in part as a talent spotting tool?

I've lived in Michigan and Indiana my entire life, sometimes I'd really like to visit Florida (January), but live there?
