Hiya everyone! I recently picked up this beautiful 1943-S Steel Cent, graded by PCGS. When I bought it, I didn't even know it was a "ghost 4" error type! So that made me a happy buyer Also, the "S" Mint Mark is also affected? Is this common for the mint mark to have this affect too?
well my opinion is this. Too many marks for a 67 not enough for a 65, BUT to be honest I've never heard of the term "ghost" before. Is that just that the digit fell off? If the "ghost digit" is post mint and it fell off I'd drop the coin down to a 64. Maybe someone can educate me on this.
I don't know how it happens, but it's defiantly not damage It's a known type official error. Doug should come by and educate us all
P.S. It's called a "ghost" error becuase when you tilt it at different angles, it fades away in different ways. It's pretty neat
Hey, grease can get into anything. Assuming that the marks on the reverse are on the slab (I think they are), that would be a solid 65 with a shot at 66.
very nice 19 3-s Steelie, and a cool error to boot!! Definitely better than the one I have in my type set. I'd give it an MS-65.
rub on the temple and cheekbone could be the plastic, otherwise I'll say 66 ish. I have seen worse in 67 holders
MS-68 is where they separate the men from the boys on these. I'll say this is a MS-66, giving every benefit of the doubt to the pictures.
