Several years ago, I heard the Gov. was going to try to do away with the Cent . Does anyone remember that ? Anyways, what would the economy be like and what would this website be like without all the Lincoln posts ? I like them don't get me wrong. Just Curious .
I'm in canada ours went in 2012.but people here still collecting them.i got some today delivered right to the house.i bought canada and usa 230 lbs .7000 are wheats.but most are canadian. I think after a few added bucks around 34,000.lol
There are trillions of Lincoln Cents in circulation. The questions here on CoinTalk will never end! Even of they decided to stop minting them.
I was in Australia in 1994 and they had already discontinued their 1¢ coins. I believe that country is still in good shape -- except for fires.
The major irritant for me would be the difficulty in extracting interest income from my bank; many times, it only amounts to a few cents, due to the recent decline in rates.

every year the "doing away with the cent" is passed around since at least 1974 and probably before then also. Don't count on it happening anytime soon. They could go back to steel core and copper plating like they do now, instead of galvanized with zinc like they did before and bring cost down to below 1 cent if they really wanted to lower the cost.

That would be just MD - Mechanical doubling. That's considered worthless doubling. So in the future start a new separate thread. Putting something not related to the topic in question is considered hijacking a thread.
As far as I know the US government has never said they wanted or planned to do away with the cent. Individuals may have said something like that, and lots of people in the general public say it should be done away with, but I think that unfortunately we will still be stuck with it for some time to come. Afterall the government is big on spending so spending 2 cents to make every cent is right up their alley.
I would prefer copper plated steel cents. Finaly i can find steel cents in coinrolls because the machines will stop sorting them with a magnet
