I'll give it a try. I've had a couple of things on ebay's good-until-sold listings that haven't sold in three months. I'll see how they go on coinbook.

I just recently checked it out and unexpectedly bought a coin. I bookmarked it with coinzip.com both are great sites to look at just coins.

Followup to my first transaction on USAcoinbook . . . I bought a non-returnable better date coin with blurry photos on the assurance from the seller that I'd like the coin.

Despite the images being blurry, the color looks very natural on both sides of the coin. With the coin being only $35, and me wanting to give the site a test drive, I rolled the dice and went for it.

In person, the coin is naturally toned over a very old obverse cleaning.

Seller seems friendly enough, and would likely take the coin back, but there's little to lose on a $35 purchase on this particular date, so I'll resell the coin as cleaned and lose less that way.

I looked high and low for some sort of buyer protection on this site, and found none. I wanted to know if it exists to mitigate risk on much larger purchases. If it doesn't, I see that as an obstacle to significant growth, as the site may soon become a haven for unscrupulous sellers.

very interesting and thank you for sharing your experience. You know the thought of buyer protection never even came up to me. I am fairly new at selling online, and the only times that I have been burned have been on eBay.
I would suggest that you send an email to the owner of the site. I forget his name, but it really is I believe a one-man operation, as my original post said I think the guy is a PhD in physics who happens to be a coin collector in a fairly good very good actually computer programmer. I'm sure that he would like to seehis business boosted by attracting larger and more sophisticated dealers such as yourself.
    Thanks

There has been several commenters in this thread "USA Coin book site" who have spoke of other sites. this site....that site....the other site. As I read the comments there have been 4 or 5 different sites mentioned. ebay, coinzip, USA Coin Book, CoinTalk, etc. Would like for commenters to indicate what "this site....that site....the other site" they are speaking about when they say "this site....that site....the other site". Would be less confusing. Chip

I checked out and purchased one coin from USA Coin Book. I was happy with my purchase. I think it's an interesting site and for low cost items, I'll likely return. However, I believe that eBay and CT offer more safety for the buyer and access to better overall availability of coins.

it's all a matter of trust. Remember that every dealer is different. My enlarged though the people on USA coin book both dealers and buyers I find to be incredibly straightforward and honest and open. I have never been burned. I do not really buy much on the site but I have made over 120 sales I believe and many of those were lots of silver dollars and half dollars... I have also sold some fractional goldbut I believe you are right my higher grade stuff, slabbed coins, etc... move very very slowly if at all. what I have developed is a number of good customers who come back and we talk about things and we make deals and I trust them and they trust me. I always offer free shipping and I never hesitate to give a refund to correct an error. no matter what business you are in and especially online to develop trust it doesn't matter what it is you buy or sell it's all a matter of people it's a people business.

any thoughts on coinzip vs usacoinbook? I set up an account on the latter - have had plenty of visits over last 2 wks, but no bites. Everything is reasonably priced and listed with 'or best offer' ...

Alan the owner of coinzip is a member as well a very good friend.
His site as well as others such have a slow down due to CV-19 no shows due to...
Coinzip does have a good audience and I do believe he allows free listings on coinzip.....the holidays, people out of work....and this frigging mess will slow down sales on a lot of non necessary items.

I just looked at the site for S-L 25c, and all I saw were lower grade coins, not the kind of coins I want in my Registry Set.

Are you speaking of coinzip? As I know most dealers who advertised there...and do know for a fact that yes there are lower priced items...as well priced in the thousands of dollars.

I have purchased several coins at USA Coin Book over the past couple of years and have been pleased with quality and price. My primary focus is Seated Liberty half dollars and my opinion is the price guide for this series is a bit on the low side. I do use the price guide when bidding on EBay but rarely win an auction. Many coins at USA Coin Book are overpriced but several dealers have what I consider reasonably priced inventory.

Of the two, I would recommend coinzip. :)

Has anyone found any luck selling on Facebook? I was a little over zealous when I started collecting; Ive now narrowed down my focus and want to unload some coins I got at the start. Would just be happy if I can cover total outlay (bid / premium / shipping) -- but I dont seem to have any bites here on usacoinbook -- though I listed everything with a 'best offer' options. Had several visits, but not a single offer or even msg. If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve my item descriptions or other selling venue options I would really appreciate it.
