I received 8 Kennedy 1/2 dollars74,71x2x5,73,89 from an eBay purchase with minimal expense of $32.00 and from one of the people who auction on this site I believe and I am thinking the 1989 coin is too bright and shiny per the others. Also, in the naked eye, it appears to be clad differently as I think it has more copper in it than the others. I measured them accurately, weighed them, and viewed them under my microscope and they all check out within normal limits as per the data online for these. 1989 stands out to me, as the attached photo seems to be different than the others which are all the same. Was wondering if different clads can be made to the same weight etc. If not real? Though all the above are correct I believe a look at the edge causes me concern Take a look, if you think as I do that it may not be real I will file with eBay Thanks your neophyte Captain Sully
Capt. Sully did you fly an a6 intruder in Nam? You cannot go by the coins edge as to the amount of copper . The blanks are punched out of sheets of pressed clad medals. Then punched out ...like any sandwich the filling can vary depending on how you mash it...
The 89 might appear different from the other half dollars you got. The mint change to a lower profile in the late 80's, 90's to today compared to the 70's pieces. This might be a illusion that its different. In layman's term on the profile - the lower profile vs higher profile - the lower profile is a smoother coin to the look and touch. This could a big topic all on its own. Snowman
[ Yes PADDY I did fly the A6 Intruder in Vietnam. A6A and A6C (infrared and Night vision camera also.) Loved every second. Many succumbed to their love of the A6. I pray for them appropriately. I was wondering that is why I did the measuring and weight checks Coin collecting has been a real experience for me. Old so that I am.
