What a year! Ugh. Hope you enjoy some of these. My top 5 Romans: 1-3. First portraits of the Second Triumvirate (Crawford 480/22, 490/1, and 495/2a) 4. Secular Games Cippus (RIC I 355) 5. Septimius and the river Tyne (RIC IV.I 229) My top 5 Greeks 1. Mostly full crest and "earring" mass owl 2. Man Faced Bull (Jenkins, Group I, 93) ... to be continued (photo limit)
3. Syracuse Tet (die) signed by Eumenos and Eukleidas (SNG ANS 262/259) 4. Proto-Tortoise (Meadows, Aegina, Group Ib; Asyut Group V, 512; HGC 6, 427) 5. Iris hemi from Kaunos (Konuk Period I, 52 (O7/R5))
That is a nice group. The owl is as well centered as I have seen. My pick of the bunch would be the Syracuse. Where is the signature on the reverse?
Thank you, @dougsmit. Just edited, the reverse signature is on the die (below the bust), but did on make it on this flan.
Good stuff! The owl is an outstanding example, but all the other coins have one thing or another that make them special and interesting. I find that Septimius portrait quite riveting, and I really like the style of the Syracuse tet, but I’d honestly be happy to welcome all of them into my own collection.
Quite a lot of "must_haves" in that lot. Even the worn ones are covetable : Caesar, Lepidus.... good scores But that crest on the athenian owl is to die for... ...and who wouldn't want a signed Syracuse tet ? Well done Q
WOW a lot of iconic coins in your ten, as others have mentioned that owl is about as good as they come and great Syracuse Tet but all great in one way or another.
Congrats, all wonderful, for top I would choose between Syracuse Tet (die) signed by Eumenos and Eukleidas, Augustus Secular Games Cippus and man faced bull.
Lovely group....Difficult to pick out any favourites but the 'owl' oooh that's nice! But I think my favourite is the Secular Games Cippus, lovely looking coin! Congrats on a really nice 2020 grouping.
Love the way you split them into 2 top fives/ Greek vs Roman. I would ay its a tie/ both groups are exceptional. John
They are lovely coins! I agree with @panzerman that your Greeks and Roman groups are each exceptional (Owl and signed Syracuse tet, even ). But I'm partial to the Roman ones (duh!) and that Augustus secular games issue is very special. I also love the Septimius Severus River Tyne reverse type; it's gorgeous!
