Is it just me? Or does anyone else get a lil excited to get the new redbook?

I know it sounds silly but every year I get excited to see the new redbook and what's new... almost ordered the megared as wizard had it on sale for 30.. but it wouldn't match my others lol.. (yeah i'm a bookworm as well as a coin nut )
I always order hardcover... i just don't like the spiral bindings

Me either , they loosen up too fast . I just got the New ANA Grading Standards Book(7th edition) in spiral and it's loose already .

 

Since I am maintaining a set of Red Books, I do look forward to the new one, but the anticipation is a bit less than handsprings.

I also buy only the hardcover version. I bought the spiral version when I was a dealer and the hardcover one so I could keep the hardcover in nice shape for the collection. I sold off the spiral book when the new editions were released.

 

The Red Book is one of the first books I reach for when I need a quick answer. I buy a new one every few years and give the old one away. It's a good feeling to help someone that's new to the hobby.

Years ago, I ended up with 5 or 6 hundred Red and Blue books. Gave away about half of them. Still have several hundred that need to go but the shipping cost is more than the value of the books.

 

I buy the spiral version about every fifth year; my current one is 2018.
I just use it as quick reference to check the facts about issues I don't collect.

I also use it to plan which issue I might collect next.
I'm currently doing some planning.

 

Ditto that! I only buy one every few years. I really don't need info on the most current Mint offerings because I don't collect them. I also prefer the spiral bound version. I don't have four hands to hold the book open to a certain page, a coin in one hand and use the keyboard with the other two.......make that five hands if I need my loupe.

 

Last time I was excited about a new Redbook was when I discovered the large print version a few years back.

 

Every 2 or 3 years I get the LARGE Print edition in spiral bound. I use it for reference but pay no attention the the values entered. I give the old ones to the kids and grand kids.

 

Since we discovered the Large Print option we are buying more printed material. We had basically stopped buying any printed material. We would both rather read holding a book than trying to read off the internet. Go Large Print.

 

Ever since I got a copy of the mega red book on sale at Barnes and Noble ($9.95), I haven't really felt the need to upgrade. Besides, my shelves are already groaning under the weight!

 

I also love physical books, but I don't need to buy a new Redbook every single year, mostly because the changes year to year are never really that significant. If I buy a new one every 3 to 4 years, then I really see something new.

Regardless, the new annual releases don't hold my interest like they used to and so my need for new Redbooks has pretty much vaporized. I still use a 2019, so perhaps I'm due again soon, but I'm not in a hurry.

I also don't keep older volumes because I know that I won't look at them, so typically I sell the older ones when I get new ones and I always only have a single copy on hand. I don't need multiple copies that, to me, would just take up space.

 

I have a copy of the 2017 Mega Red edition, and look forward to getting the 2021 - every three or four years is about right for me.

I do, however, keep a copy of the 1968 Red Book. I bought it a few years ago, just to remember what is was like to look through that volume when I was 11 to 13 years old. I remember my father kept it on his dresser - it was the only coin reference book we had.

 

It takes a least a year to compile data to script a new addition therefore I purchase every other year. Walla, I'm still a year behind no matter what, go figure!

 

I used to, 55 years ago. Now I buy one every ten years or so.

 

I bought both the large print and the mega. The mega has a lot more useful information in it but is unwieldy to handle so I usually leave it on the shelve and use the spiral bound large print for reference.

 

I get a new spiral copy every year. I use it mainly to help the people who bring me their "I have a few coins" to evaluate for them. It gives them a little more confidence when they see me using the current version. I do explain that the prices are high retail and not set in stone. I have a couple of the Mega Red books that I use when researching for a new coin for my collection.
I can't bring myself to throw away any of the older copies or any book for that matter, but I have given a few older books away to kids that show an interest.

I do the exact same thing. I get a new one every 5 years or so. But I do get excited when I get a new one.
