I have this Nickel that I bought last year . I need help to ID the Variety so I can Catalog it . It's obviously a 1868 Nickel ( REV of 1868 ) .I estimate it to be about VF -20 or VF30 ??My questioning refers to the C in Cents .
    Is it a FS-901(FS-05-1868-901) or the rarer FS-906 variety5.5 (FS-05-1868-906) ?? I think I paid $20 .

Your specimen is in fact the reverse of 68 and easy determination by the un broken star pointing to the F in of.
Only 10 % of all 1868 shields are rev. Of 68
Your coin is a two fer it is an fs-05-1868-305 [003.45 ] an urs 3, as well with the broken c an fs-901 estimated mintage 1,392,000 no broken letters on the reverse with the rev. Of 68 is the rarest. FS-906
From your image the c looks like its tail is missing.

Are any letters broken ? If the c tail is broken its the 901 if no letters are broken and the star under OF isnt missing a point, and the point is under the "F " foot then its an 906
