Impressive collection. Do you have a link to view your Canadian large cent collection ? I am currently working on a 2 Canadian toned collections... Caribou quarters dated 1937-1968 and 50 cents collection dated 1937-1967. I shifted my U.S. coin collecting to world coins. I like collecting in topical/ themed collections. "Coins with insects", "Coins with hands", Coins with certain stars", "Coins with small coins as the design itself", "Pop out coins", "Toned Coins", and a MISC. world coin collection. I have been collecting coins for 22 years now. I totally enjoy it. I have completed the statehood quarters dansco album. Adding to American the beautiful dansco album. Have a dansco album for the Sac dollars only 3/4 done on that. Dansco album for Presidential dollars almost complete. Almost completed my Mercury dime collection (no keys) missing only a few. It is ok not to have the expensive keys. Buy what you can afford and be happy with it or save up for it.

 

I completed the Indian Cents (but sold it), Lincoln cents, Jefferson Nickels, silver Roosevelt dimes and Franklin Half dollars (but sold it) when I was young. I have not kept up those collections. I also have the Proof sets, 1950 to date without the rare missing mint mark sets.

As an older collector, I have become "a gold bug." I have complted these sets:

Type I gold dollars
Type II gold dollars (a short but difficult set)
$2.50 Indian gold pieces
$2.50 Classic Head gold pieces
$5.00 Classic Head gold pieces.

I also have a "red Book" set of the early half dimes, 1792 to 1805, minus the 1802 which is beyound my budget.

Oh, I forgot. I do have a type set of the "old commemorative silver coins" from the 1892 Columbian half dollar to 1954. I also have the "old gold" commemorative set from 1903 to 1926, including the Pan-Pac coins.

I also have a complete type set of U.S. coins from 1792 to date as defined by the NGC registry.

Dollars 1900 to date, all but 3 1878 to date
Washington Quarters, including Statehood, ATB to date

I completed silver Roosevelt dimes as a YN, back when the "key dates" (49-P and S, 50-S, 51-S, 55-P/D/S) traded at a premium. I still have the book tucked away somewhere.

More recently:
Washington silver quarters (non-proof)
Barber halves (nearly all from bulk lots on eBay)
Walker halves (may be missing one or two common dates, but bought the 1921 P/D/S and 1916-S slabbed as a lot on eBay)
Franklin halves (bought a complete set at melt, I guess it counts)
Peace dollars (think I've got all the dates/MMs now, lucked into the keys)

"Almost":
V-nickels -- missing only 1885
Mercs -- missing only, well, you know, plus the overdates

I can't say that I'm working on completing any sets at this point, but if opportunity knocks, we'll see.

 

Sorry, I don't have this collection or much of any of them photgraphed, a skill I am sorely lacking. A few of the large cents set me back, so I kind of fibbed about part of it. The 1859 re-engraved date and over date were pricy, but I had an old Whitman album and these were included in the slots. Kind of like the older cent albums with the 1955 & 1972 doubled dies. I replaced that album so I didn't have to look at empty slots. Those were the only two I had to purchase. The rest came from trading over many years.

 

@johnmilton Don't know what went wrong there. I never got the gold bug. In fact, most of my jewelry is white gold. I did buy a few $2.50 gold pieces from my son when he needed money for college books but he will get them back eventually. Very impressive your collection also.

 

Very nice indeed. I am working on both my Barber quarters and halves right now. It's just a working mans collection with many dates and most in the very good to fine range, but it's an honest collection.

 

I've completed Lincolns thru 89. Same for Jefferson's, Roosie's, Kennedy's,
Ikes, early SBA's, Peace dollars, Merc's, Washington's and a few others.
Roll set of State quarters. Maybe a couple of others. No varieties.

 

Very nice. All my modern sets includes all proofs, clad and silver. I also picked up the W.L. 1921 set from a dealer in the mid west many years ago, all in fine condition just so I could finish the set. I could do some upgrading on my earlier dates but from 1938-1946 are all B.U. Some of the Barbers are going to be tough but I'm in a better place financially this year than I was a year ago since my pension kicked in. I won't be going crazy though and hope for a minimum of fine on the tough dates. Just another honest collection.

 

I still want to sit at @johnmilton coin desk with him one day. What a collection. My complete sets are;

• Lincoln Whitman books 1 & 2. It was started around 1970. The 09-S, VDB was plugged in 2001.
• Mercury dimes started around 1980. The 16-D and 42/41 were plugged around 2001.
• Four sets of state quarters (why?)
• One set of state quarters with proofs (again, why?)
• Franklin halves.. Twice, first book was stolen.
• Walking halves
• Ikes X2 (Yet again, why?)
  
• Peace dollars
• Jefferson nickels to 1964
• Roosevelt dimes to 1964
• Kennedy halves that go up somewhere in the 1990's.
  
• Most recently a two cent and three cent nickel book that isn't quite complete and has been quite the challenge.

 

@Randy Abercrombie Yeah, that 1885 is going to be a tough but I don't know that I would consider the proofs as regular dates as they were a special issue only. They are doable though. Otherwise, it's a very doable collection in nicer grades and an under rated series.

 

I've worked on sets from circulation finds only for the last I guess 35 years off and on. I only collect P+D and Circulation S mint like this though.

State Parks 2010-date Missing the D's for this year.

Complete lincoln cents 1959-Date, still working on the older stuff.
Complete Roosevelt Dimes 1965-Date, still working on the silver but I did have it complete before.

I pretty much just focus on coin roll hunting and circulation finds all this time, haven't paid more than face, except for the stuff I bought direct from the mint which I keep in the mint sets.

Everything is a work in progress really, Id's say I go from present back to 1909 really, I have some indian head cents from circulation finds that are older, but they are few and far between, I have a couple morgans, peace dollars from lucky bank dollar coin pickups from tellers over the years also, but not really working on those, Even what I consider "complete" I upgrade if I come across something better so nothing is ever really complete. those older sets will be if I ever reach an example of everything from 1909- present, even if I just get down to missing the key + semi key dates, maybe I buy examples at that point to finish them out. It's a long shot to find those in circulation. but I'm not going to worry about that until that's all that's left to finish the sets.

As far as silver in 2011 when it peaked near $50 I sold off everything of my circulation finds and my extras figuring I'd just buy them back when prices dropped low enough again, but just never got around to it and started again from circulation finds instead which is much slower going than it was in the 1980s-1990s. Nothing special there back in 2011 or now though all common date stuff and circulated.

honestly the goal has been see how far I can get to an example of everything from circulation from 1909 to present and everything at a cost of no more than face value spent. Maybe I'm around 60%.
Just figuring out how many coins all these sets are total seems like a daunting task itself, and you'd think by now I would have done the math but NOPE! LOL

 

I actually have been considering cracking some proofs for the last four years of the three cent nickels. Those last four years are tough in business strikes!

 

Yeah, I won't talk about condition in my sets. None of the Barber halves are holed, but I think I might still have one bent one in the book (have to check, I believe I've got an upgrade for it by now if so), and quite a few of them are cleaned, scratched, or sub-AG.

I think my slabbed Walkers were all in the G04-VG8 range.

 

You folks amaze me with your completed sets. I thought that I had a collection but after reading about your sets I realize that I have a 40 year accumulation or maybe I could call it my hoard. Granted that most of mine was collected from circulation for the first 25 years. My hat is off to all of you.

 

Oh wait.... We were talking about books with high grade coins?? Well, that shortens my list substantially!

 

A few of my Barber quarter and halves are really worn but I got those from a trio of spinsters that were born in the late 1800's back in the 1960's when they paid me for my paper and seed sales each year so they have some sentimental value. But looking back I have often wondered just what else they had in the old tin they came from that I missed out on.

 

Honest collection - awesome. Me too. A few of the very difficult coins were purchased or traded for. Most found in circulation way in the 40's, 50's and early 60's. I have always wanted coins I found or, at least, circulated with good eye appeal. All this was in circulation when I was in grade school and high school.
