Found these coins in my grandfather's collection handed down to me. I do not know where to begin putting information into the Numista site in order to find them. Any help is appreciated. Coin #1 - Appears to be bronze color with weight of 7.07 grams More coins to follow. ~Rob
Coin #2 - Appears to be brass color with weight of 3.87 grams Coin #3 - Appears to be brass in color with weight of 2.79 grams Coin #4 - Appears to be brass color with weight of 3.75 grams Let's start here, as I have a few more. What day you? ~Rob
On the Numista site use the search function if you don't have a date or denomination. Choose China for example, it will bring you all known coins and unfortunately you will have to go through them until you find a match. Alternatively you can wait for answers here, lol
Thanks Expat. In the process right now. Lots of coins with very subtle differences. Especially if you can't read the language. ~Rob
Thanks, Lord. I was wondering and leaning that way, as the other coins that have enough information in order to find them on Numista have been from China. ~Rob
For the Qing Dynasty ones (2-4), I think they are: 2: Jiāqìng 嘉慶 (1796-1820) both pics are upside-down, board of revenue mint (BOO CIOWAN) - this is from the Manchurian squiggles on the reverse 3: Guāngxù 光緒 (1875-1908) minted, not cast. His reign had both types. "BOO Kuang" (Kwangtung mint) 4: Dàoguāng 道光 (1820-1850), also "BOO CIOWAN" (Board of Revenue mint) I think these are some of the more common Qing Dynasty types, often retailing for $1-2 around here. BTW, modern Romanization of Chinese names is a little different than that used for older stuff. So don't be surprised if the spelling is different in different sources. For example, Kuang-Hsu = Guāngxù etc.
Thanks Eidolon. I knew nothing about the coin so just took the pictures... I was going to put in a disclaimer that the coins may be misaligned but didn't. ~Rob
