A 1936-S and a 1938 Washington Quarter, a few of the harder to get dates. Any silver coin in the thirties is a sweet find at junk pricing.
You are finding some good stuff in that "junk". I inherited my grandpa's Washington quarter book. 1932D and 1932S. I doubt I will ever find them in a junk pile haha. I would like to one day fill the holes in his album though.
I've always wanted to buy a huge bag if silver. I just really enjoy looking through it. Never had the money to just spend on coins. And then I'd have to go through the process of selling and so on.
You never know. Before I retired a coworker asked if I would buy his coins. He brought them in for me to see and stated how much he wanted for them. The coins were all circulated silver and I was glad to buy them at slightly over junk pricing. Months later I went through them and there were several 1932-D and S Quarters. You just never know.
Here is a picture of my current tubes, that I am filling with hand picked "junk" silver, at "junk" silver prices.
Before March of this year, I frequented my LCS, who allows me to sort through bags of half dollars, quarters and dimes. That is where I would get most of them. Some I would pick up at small coin shows. I picked up some of my Barber halves for about $7.50 each on another forum‘s BST earlier this summer. But I looked at pictures of the halves before I bought them. I usually do not buy large quantities at one time, and am very selective. I have bought circulated rolls in the past without checking them, and was disappointed with some of them being cleaned, damaged or very common date coins. I know some will say silver is silver, but I disagree. I want my silver to be both pleasing looking, as well as a store of value. If it is beat up or ugly, I pass. I have picked up many very nice semi key silver coins at junk prices. I have for the most part, but not totally, stopped buying 90% silver for the time being. Reason: I think it is currently too expensive. But, I still look for, at the right price, common date, problem free circulated Morgan and Peace dollars. I have acquired these kind of coins at many different places over the years. Dealers and shows come and go. I even have some from back in the mid 60’s when the coins were changed from silver to cupronickel coins. I complete one tube, and start a new one. And the hunt continues.
