Ruben, i would not call that one ugly, let's just say "very original".
It did what it was made to do - serve in the channels of commerce.

 

it looks like it didn't get through the civil war too well, but I'm happy to have it

It had a tough life but I still like it. To me 1857 was a really cool year in coins but not so cool for our nation.

 

It's not terrible, it's got history and character.

 

I agree with bq - to me this beats the heck out of some of those blast white coins.

 

A lot of things didn't get throught the Civil War too well...

 

If you ever find that you can't bear to look at it, I'll take it off your hands.

Your description was certainly accurate.

 

Alot of history...lol. Thats why I like these coins. Well, all coins from the 19th century. Quite a bit of history happend in those 100 years and it makes you wonder where Rubens Half Dime may have been.

 

Exactly my thinking. Imagine who's hands helped wear these coins. If only coins could talk

 

Maybe a hammer and chisel ....

 

I only have one half dime in my collection, an 1853 with arrows.
