HI, I have never used an on line forum before so please excuse me if i mess up or don't know how to follow the threads. I have come across a 2001 roosevelt dime denver mint which is all copper. There is one speck of silver above his right ear but otherwise the whole dime is copper colored. Is there a way to color silver copper or how do i tell if the dime is actually missing the silver clad? Any help would be appreciated. My e-mail is [deleted] Thanks, Ron
Can you post a photo? I say it has either been plated since you say that you can see a bit of clad above the ear or maybe its been removed by acid-- Speedy
Hi rj. Welcome to the forum. A 2001 Roosie doesn't have any silver content. They consist of a center layer of pure copper, and outer layers of .750 copper+.250 nickle. That alloy has a silvery color. A starting point in determining if your coin is missing one or both clad layers is accurately weighing it. As minted, the coin should weigh 2.27g. If it is significantly lighter, it is missing some or all of its cladding. If it has a normal weight, it is just discolored, stained, or even (possibly but not probably) copper plated. If it's lighter, it has to be carefully examined to determine whether it was struck on a defective planchet, or had part of its cladding removed as post-mint damage.
picture Hi, I too have a 2001D Roosevelt dime that appears to be copper but with no corrosion. In reading these forums it seems everytime someone asks for a pic one does not get posted so here is a pic of the dime I received as a penny change the other day. What is the explanation to this (other than I am nine cents in the plus )
I actually have a dime that I also believe to have an outer copper layer only. I took it to a local jeweler and they said it weighs 1.3 pennyweights, whatever that is. I can post pics tomorrow.
Welcome to Coin Talk! When you have a coin with something that you think is an error, you can start your own thread on it in the error coin section. It will get you more replies. Also, check out a bunch of threads on here to get some tips on posting photos. It looks to me like you have a dime with some environmental damage. No value over face. When you take a photo of a coin, do it from directly on top and also post a photo of the obverse and the reverse of the coin. It helps us help you!
Yes, it is known as dry skin. You may want to exfoliate and then use a gentle moisturizer twice a day.
I have a dime that's real light weight an looks like a smaller penny with a dime in print an smells copper too ... anyone knows if it's worth anything
First, welcome to the neighborhood! When posting photos, it is best to use the "Upload a File" button at the bottom of your post. Once you have selected the image you want to post, be sure to use the "Full Image" option rather than the "Thumbnail" option. I took a look at the dime you tried to post, and it doesn't look like it is missing a clad layer. It just looks like it has become discolored while in circulation. ~Chris
