I would just like to say that i have found over some time that there are A LOT of sellers on ebay that really just love to con people. I wanted to start a thread for anyone to drop BAD SELLERS NAMES, and maybe tell a bit of your story as to why. I also thought I should seeing as im starting it, id like to mentio a few, I myself havent fallen for the hard core cons. thankfully. But hre a few names that I have found to be some of the worst sellers on ebay, and why. my list. Whole4sale / Sells ALL FAKE COINS. says hes in the USA but orders arive from china. Also if you look him up online theres other ( many ) reports about him. Mikescoins1 / Grade A+ con man. Over priced EVERYTHING. BIG TIME BAIT AND WITCH ARTIST. I got 10 rolls of so called mixxed date MS60 to 63 graded Morgans. Guess what i got. 10 rolls. thats right OF 1921 au50 dipped to ms60s. up 200 same date half cleaned scrap silver. lol Actaully working working with 12 other people to take Legal action. Estatesales / Another guy you can find about a few web sites known for selling counterfit and repro coins as real. He got me once. ONLY once and thank the lord not as bad as so many others. last but not least. Theres a Husband and wife in MS that sell under more names then i can think of. tese are a few. uscoinlots, coinlots, tuesdaynightauctions, & may more. Last i checked they had over 12 names going at once. they sell so called lots of coins from 1000 to 30,000 bcks in value. When you get the coins where All ANI graded coins. Which happen to be n the same town as they live in and sell from. ANI is a company known to SUE eveyone that bad mouths them. So i must refrain. But i did call them once to ask then if they had a clue. So anyhow. This is just a small list of many Im sure, but I think that it would be a great help to fellow collectors to know about sellers that SUCK on ebay. Its not to go off all mad and bad mouth them. Its to proved you with the KNOW. Also, im going to ask that you not just bad mouth a seller becuase you made a mistake. If you didnt read the auction then its more you fault you got jipped. but if they are saying they are selling you one thing and you get another. thats what matters. Thank you now please tell all :0) Sorry about typos hold my son and typing with one hand.
got conned a few years ago by "jack marsden" out of California. paid something like $55 for a vf barber dime that never came. filed mail fraud after no response from him for questions I asked on the shipping info. no results. Was duped by "time4goodies" also out of California paid $100 for a supposedly ms67 1878 7tf morgan by APEX grading svc. lets just say that either that outfit is based in the guy's basement or they don't know their stuff. Also, and this one is too bad... a guy called "valerio919" said he mailed my 1864 2-cent when I paid him his $20, but it also never came. We went back and forth with communications for about three months in case it showed up somewhere, and after he finally agreed to refund half my purchase price, he never got back to me again. He really sounded like he was serious too. SLIMY!!!! ALL of em!!!!
Nathan, If I went through listings I could point out "slimy" dealers all day - that's why I rarely bid. Shakey ground you're standing on here. Your ANI comment speaks volumes. Going to be an interesting thread no doubt and I'll watch/comment. Just one question though. Why would you buy 10 rolls of Morgans sight unseen? In my book that's a fairly majory purchase. clembo
I have no problems posting the sellers I have had problems with, although, I would prefer posting sellers who had treated me well and I have done so. chuck_furjanic_inc Bought a 1924-D “xf”. What I got had the cheek worn into the jaw and almost flat wheats. “I am a lifetime ANA member and I assure you it is XF.” WRONG! After loosing my $6 shipping, he refunded me by sending it on PayPal. i.e. I lost their fees also. And it included a note that all negative feedback will be returned in kind. BTW – my local has about the same feelings for him. Darkcoiner MS-63 equals badly corroded AU. eagle.eye.eddie Nice coins - very nice, but the worst service I have seen. 2 weeks after winning, I wrote to ask if he had received my check (he did not take PayPal). 4 days later he says that he has and then 2 day later files a nonpaying buyer against me. Several emails later (none answered) and after receiving most of the coins, I filed a non receipt against him. He finally pulled the nonpayment against me and promised to send me the coin I was missing. After waiting another 3 weeks, I gave him a negative for the coin I was missing. About 2 months later, I got a message from him asking if I was the one who was missing a coin. simplycoins! 1912-D that was supposed to be BU/UNC was either XF or AU. I could not tell for sure because it was covered in some kind of plastic. coolest_boy83 After duping me with stolen pictures, I caught him doing it again.
Well in that case, I have been duped into 2 old threads by Silent, LOL. I'll ad 2 sellers to this list then start a thread for the good guys, hows that 1. Marc$coins: Bought a 1909-S buy it now, paid immeadiatly. after 2 weeks, emailed for an update, no reply. Filed ebay and paypal notice on 14th day. Week went by, no contact, escalated to claim on day 21. Seller replied paypal has frozen money and he does not consider coin paid for yet. Paypal refunded/ I negged /got negged. 2. nevermind
No offense intended - but two dealers mentioned I have dealt with, without any problems - simplycoins and chuck_furjanic without any problems. It was interesting to read your opinions - but I treat them like any seller on ebay. They typically overgrade and do not mention everything about the coins. With chuck always ask for better pictures and bid accordingly. With simplycoins - the one coin I got was priced according to the grade I thought it was, even though the auction specified a higher grade. With any seller on ebay you have to be careful.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN USING NAMES OR USER ID'S. The personal risk you run is very real and very great. Do not ever let a crook a chance to turn on you, which these guys will do. You'll be forced to prove everything you've said or insinuated. Remember that the law favors the guilty. It is not difficult to file a law-suit without an attorney. In the meantime, an honest member or members of CT may have to hire on to represent them. Filing legal paperwork is a breeze. I have an MBA with a Finance concentration and was able to file all the paperwork to create my own corporation and two subsidiaries, which I use as investment vehicles to protect my assets in case of a law suit. So please be careful in what you say. Vegas Vic
Vegas: You don't think it would be easy enough to prove this??: "1. Marc$coins: Bought a 1909-S buy it now, paid immeadiatly. after 2 weeks, emailed for an update, no reply. Filed ebay and paypal notice on 14th day. Week went by, no contact, escalated to claim on day 21. Seller replied paypal has frozen money and he does not consider coin paid for yet." Why would a seller go through the work to get negative publicity? What is there to win? Wouldn't they be better off (and easier) to lay low and keep scamming? I appreciate this thread and I don't see the risk in free speech. Yes, I know of the case where somebody took somebody to court over leaving a neutral feedback. Any judge with ANY mental capacity would throw this trivial BS out immediately. If there's a risk in going to court over this thread, then I think we all should stop using internet forums altogether to be safe. Because you never know who you might offend and then get taken to court. I'm not trying to criticize but are you seriously that worried about it?
I think it's a crap shoot with some. I have not dealt with these people but one dealer might be fine most of the time and then shove a bad one out the door. Somebody get ticked. Negative feedback happens. It's the only explanation when they have many positives and then all of a sudden a negative complaining about condition. I bought a buffalo nickel roll once. Said it was an 'old unsearched' roll. That was a lie. Left feedback along with many others who paid more for mostly worthless rolls. I don't believe it's a coincidence when 40 coins are that worn in a roll. Typically, excellent condition late 30s exist everywhere yet even those were worn to hell. So I left neutral, along with many others' negatives. I received retaliatory negative out of it. This was right before the much needed seller, no negative, cut off. I'm beginning to love the rule more and more. All my negatives have been retaliatory from sellers who deserved them.
I agree that in the case of the 1909S you have nothing to fear. However, if he had responded in a different manner, say that coin was lost or something to that effect you might have something to be concerned with by naming him. Conmen can be very creative and convincing, then you would have something to worry about unless Paypal or Ebay would admit they had taken action against him (which they will not do out of privacy concerns). It would take a subpoena to get Ebay or Paypal to release their records, and of course with inter-state trading it would take a Federal Court to force that out of them. Privacy laws have created a monster. There is no record of anything unless a court declares it must be released. Personally, I'm not terribly afraid, because I won't name names. With the litigious society we are forced to exist in, its better to be safe than sorry. Obviously Marc had already played his scam to the end and realized itl Vegas Vic
Guys, this is up to the management of ebay, paypal to decide. This is not a forum to backstab sellers and get away with it. There was an ebay member that threatened to sue cointalk due to negative publicity.
*Pwhew* thank god nobody mentioned my name haha. Juuust kidding Im an honest seller. I have dealt with "Mikescoins1". I got sucked into his "Ike $1 for a $1 auction". Said they were in good condition, and it turns out I guess he literally meant G condition. No wonder he can afford to sell them at face
Mikescoins1 is now NARU on ebay. I guess too many people complained to ebay and Paypal and they shut him down.
So Vic, are you saying that the casino I work for can sue the people that post negative reviews about the hotel on sites like TripAdvisor.com. Exactly what law are people breaking that states they can't publicly post an opinion regarding their experience with a specific seller of goods or services?
Yeah, they could sue if they wanted to. There doesn't have to be a law. All they have to do is file the suit. You ever try to fight a law suit ? It is extremely expensive. And it doesn't matter what side will win. What matters is how much it costs to even fight it. Most of them never even go to court. But you still have a ton of legal fees to pay. People know this - so even threatening to sue can be a truly scary proposition.
Bought a Fugio listed as club rays and received a pointed rays one. Several members on CT verified that it wasn't a club rays variety. The pictures in the listing weren't clear so you couldn't tell, but it was obviously pointed rays when I got it. Contacted seller by email and told them that the Fugio was listed wrong and I wanted to return it. We held off on giving feedback to give them a chance to make it right. They refunded money 10 days later, but no shipping charges were refunded. Paid $11.00 to get the wrong coin and $8.50 to return it, so I'm out almost $20. :crying: Then I get something from ebay saying the seller wanted to "cancel the transaction." Seller still claims listing was correct that it's a club rays variety. :headbang: What do you think? FUGIO 1787 COLONIAL PENNY G/VG CLUB RAYS world_coinz was the seller. Ebay photo from listing ^^^ My photo ^^^
Yeah, and spend even more money. Don't ya get it ? It's not the suit that matters - it's all the money you have to spend. And what if you don't have $20, $50 or even $100,000 to just throw away ?
