Danomite What do you say uh-huh

Coin 5 is a large date. The tail of the second 7 is a lot lower than the 0.

I see... So the presence of the notch is an aspect of the identity of the SD as well. Not the direction it faces? In the picture noted above the notched loop is facing towards the MM. The notched loop on my coin is pointing towards the tail of the 7. Also, on my coin the MM position is farther away from the 9 as depicted in the reference pictures for the SD, and the LD has the MM closer.

I am not whining. I am trying to learn/educate myself about this coin since I have so many of them to go through. I don't want to miss a subtle aspect of a SD and toss it away. I am arguing my point and at some point will agree with you and others, or not. I have appreciated this back and forth with actual pictures and points of contention... not just weird lighting and crappy pictures.

As the pictures I posted show, the notch in the crotch is an aspect of the LD, not the SD.

I think the tail of the 9 on your 5th coin (post #5) only appears to point towards the bottom of the 7 - I think a few pixels of shininess on the inside of the loop near the tip makes it look like it but I don't think it actually does.

The postion of the MM is irrelevant - not a diagnostic.

Boy, that glass of wine went quick...brb.

Once you see a real SD in hand this all becomes crystal clear. It took me until a year or two ago to see one in hand and it was by pure chance that I bought a Proof set that was supposed to have a LD in it but in fact it was obviously a SD.

I haven't seen a real SD yet. After 7 years of collecting. I've pretty much given up on this variety.

Okay... There are times the MM matters, just not in this case?

I turned the coin on its side... the notch is still apparently pointing to the tail of the 7 but not as drastic as the initial pictures showed.

Thanks Frog. So very rare then? Not unheard of to find nothing in several rolls of nothing but 1970 S coins then?

Thanks for the photos Rob. I thought the 9 got hit, moved metal.

So an even harder turn in the loop. Basically, if I see a real SD I will know it having seen so many LD coins?

Thanks Pickin... I didn't know my grandfather had all of these... The only other roll is 1968 S uncirculated... Then he had a crap ton of wheats...
