My favoprite commem. is the 1918 illinois centennial Lincoln Half Dollar. Had one in the family 54 years ago but lost track it. Lost is the key word. Anyhow, Abe's very sad face and the eagle on the reverse always has a special place in my heart.
My VG/Fine 1948-D Booker T. Washington Half dollar. It's not the best looking, but all things considered, it's the rarest US coin I'll ever own. Five thousand minted and 4850 were in sets and never made it into circulation. Compare that to all those 1909S-vdb's out there!
Truly a thread after my own heart Check my sig and my avatar, I am trying it make sure I have pics of all of my coins I have a stunning Connecticut that is getting sent off for grading next week, i will post pics when i can... The san-diego is also really a nice design. Here is my columbia * coin, its just as nice in hand as it is in my pics... here are a few.
Being from Illinois I always loved the Lincoln and finally picked up a nice one this year , After Lincoln , the Oregon trail is my favorite half dollar , but my all time favorite is the Isabella Quarter . rzage:hatch::hammer:
I have always loved the Antietam Commem. Two generals and a really cool bridge. Add some killer toning and you have a masterpiece. :smile
Well, OK. The Antietam is one of my favorite Commem designs. Your example is beautiful. As you know, I'm not a big fan of toning but you are beginning to make me appreciate some of the better toned coins.
I picked up a Texas Half dollar in NY last october...but my Credit card was declined I knew I shouldn't have gone to see the NY Knicks...or else I'd have one now.
As to Antitum...you know what they should do? The Government should reissue them for the 150th anniversery in clad and distribute them like they do he JFKs and Sacs.
I really like Commeneratives, but the Oregon Trail is my favorite. I held a MS slabbed one in Orlando for the first time. Really a beautiful Commemerative by a great disigner couple, and a very interesting history. Someone mentioned the bay bridge commenerative, I like the whole California series. Of course when talking about commems the Texas will also be high in collectors favorites.
