I guess Ebay doesn't give a darn about counterfeits as long as you word it right they'll sell it , Education is our only hope and it works no one from here would bid on some garbage , like PT Barnum said there's a sucker born every minute , a $1,800 sucker . Too bad there's people with morals so low , they can buy Chinese counterfeits and then make up a story and sell them .:computer::headbang:

Why would any bidder bypass all the red flags surrounding these auctions and throw thousands of dollars away? I get nervous spending fifty bucks on a coin.

Blaming it on the economy is too easy , these are lowlife bottom fedders who would do it no matter what , of course the economy doesn't help it just gives more low moral people an excuse to defraud someone

Either they're desperate or greedy and think you can get something for nothing .

I agree but what I was saying is it will get worse as peeps get more desperate. ;)

On the other hand, I'd like to share this story with ya'll and it concerns this auction:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220352157010&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

I messaged the seller a few hours ago and informed them it wasn't possible for it to be a 1798/7 since it was a 2nd hairstyle and the seller just messaged me and said:

"You are correct, the date looks like it is 1798 over 7, but you brought up a good point with the hair.
Thanks for your help, I will re-list as 1798."

As you can see by clicking on the auction, the seller did kill the auction and is currently relisting it, yet all they had to do was add it to the Q&A section and that would have sufficed. It's sellers like this that go to the extreme to do the right thing, that you want to buy from but it would also help if they did their homework first, but no one is perfect. ;)

In the end, he did the right thing an I'm impressed! :thumb:

The sad thing is that most of these buyers, not knowing any better, will just add the coin to their collection, pat themselves on the back for getting an "incredible deal" on eBay, and post a glowing positive feedback for the crook who sold them the junk.

Well, that's only with one of those prepaid eBay gift cards I got for Christmas. I would never spend real money!

Otay guys, I got creative and looked at the seller's feedback they've left for others and there are 2 new feebacks on the 26th and the seller sold only 2 items on the 25th and nothing else before that (within the past 30 to 90 days):

Out of the 2 feedbacks left, I checked the buyer's feedback and found who bought the 1797 Bust Dollar, by noticing one buyer never bought coins but other things and not that many at that, but the other buyer is a serious coin buyer.

Since I'm not the most qualified person to inform this buyer why that 1797 is a counterfeit, I would appreciate one or more of you more qualified members informing them of the predicament they are now facing.

This seller is in for an interesting surprise! ;)

Well, this seller is one lowlife that won't get away with it. ;) They're about to find out that what goes around, comes around.

    Ribbit :D

Ps: I sorta feel sorry for the buyers, especially the one that bought the 1797. I have a feeling they will be getting hit with a lot of messages about it and it was a Private Auction, so they won't even be expecting it.

ice Just happy to be here

Being new to coin collecting I have to wonder are some of the coins I inherited over the years are fakes. None of them are especially great or key dates so I can't imaging someone going to all the trouble. You guy make me nervous to even go buy a coin. You guys have any pointers to what you call red flags? If I do decide to buy a coin will you give me an opinion? Ice

I recommend taking them to a local coin shop to check them out. Depending on the coin on the type of point the experts might give. As yes there are some really nice people who will give an opinion of a coin.

By the way the auction was pulled. Good Job you all!
