That is your opinion, and you are entitled to it. But fair warning to all - the rules of this forum will be followed. That includes treating other members with respect. I will allow what has been posted so far to stand. But you have been warned - and that is not pointed to anybody in particular but to everybody.
My deepest Apologies for any comments that were offensive. I just lost my cool, but I should have taken a breather to think of my words so as not to break the rules here. Sincerely, Donn
Just wondering if this is any worse than the U.S. Mint telling everyone they are having a sale, but did not lower any of their prices.
You are right Doug! However, this constant bringing up of the indiscretions of the eBay Seller and Member here (Little Dog) should not be tolerated either. Even after he has clearly stated that he made a mistake, apologized and indicated that he would not use deceptive information in his' Auction Titles, the badgering continued. I don't know what the he*# is going on with some folks here on C.T. (*) but this constant badgering, picking on and making fun of, is taking away from the reason we are members and here and is making Coin Talk look bad. (*) I thought that maybe it was a full moon but it must be something else! Frank
Welcome to Cointalk, LittleDog, and I hope you return as there are many, many good people here willing to share a huge amount of numismatic knowledge. It looks to me like in your enthusiasm to gain viewers for your auctions you broke an eBay rule, but I certainly don't see where there was any attempt to be deceptive. Best of luck to you!
Your first mistake, is you don't know what subliminal means. What was mentioned earlier qualifies as camouflaged, not subliminal because no one can see it (aka: TOTALLY invisible)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please educate yourself before trying to educate others! Ribbit
Subliminal - Definition adj. Psychology. Below the threshold of conscious perception. Used of stimuli. Inadequate to produce conscious awareness but able to evoke a response: subliminal propaganda. Nice try, invisible is below the threshold of conscious perception And He doesn't deny it's Subliminal Advertising, which is as we proved earlier Deceptive. Invisible - Definition 1 a: incapable by nature of being seen b: inaccessible to view : hidden 2: imperceptible , inconspicuous Camouflaged - Definition 1. the act, means, or result of obscuring things to deceive an enemy, as by painting or screening objects so that they are lost to view in the background, or by making up objects that have from a distance the appearance of fortifications, guns, roads, etc.
ps Handsome toad we are iether going to be in trouble or already maybe for still debating this. so we may want to agree to disagree
Quoting your definitions: Below the threshold of conscious perception I do not believe that below the threshold of visual perception qualifies! The situation must be viewable for the subconscious to perceive it, therefore, invisible does NOT qualify. Ribbit Ps: If we keep it within limits, I belive we can argue this.
Use the technique David mentioned and you will still get the results you want, without any deception being involved, but you won't be able to put it in the Title. Ribbit
I chose the name Little Dog because I knew there were people on here with so much knowledge and experience that I didn't have, that it would help me be better at this hobby that I love. Yes a hobby. Sometimes I get in a little over my head and am forced to sell some of my coins to pay the bills. Thanks to those of you that had positive help for me. I will pay more attention to what I am doing in the future.
Little Dog, We have a good group of collectors here with a large amount of collective knowledge and experience. Most here are passionate about our hobby and almost all of us take offense when someone gives our hobby a black eye. Some can become quite defensive when they spot wrongdoing (as you have experienced). Learn from this experience. I see no reason why you cannot redeem yourself by "keeping your nose clean" from this point on. (Kind of like a judge expunging a first-offender's record after a clean probationary period.) Welcome to CoinTalk and I look forward to your positive participation.
LittleDog, You have caused no trouble. These things happen sometimes on CT and I KNEW this one would get ugly. Here's how I see it honestly. I've looked at your auctions now and feel you were misleading but that's my opinion you know. Nothing against you but that's how I see it. The fact that you've been on ebay for a while influenced my decistion actually. I think you should have known better. However, checking your feedback most of yours seems to be as a buyer so selling is not something you do all that often? It's not an excuse though - play by the rules. For those that don't want to play by the rules and the minions that get away with it, are we, as Cointalk members, wanting to stoop to that level? Hey, we can all find "total garbage" auctions and we often do. We are a community and we DO seek these things out. Sometimes it steps on anothers toes as it were but what's the bottom line here? TO SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND LEARN! I agree with the OP and can also see where Littledog is coming from at this point. As for all the garbage inbetween it's pretty much a waste of time.
Hey LittleDog, have you been following this thread: http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t47224/ At least you are not like that seller, which is one that we are seriously going after, so we do go after the nasty ones also. We all take fraud seriously, no matter how small, so that's why this got so heated, because we are all passionate collectors and don't want to see other collectors getting hurt. :thumb: I hope your auctions do well with your new found knowledge. Ribbit
we are in 2008 now frank its global warming. you cant even see the moon through the smoke cough cough
Frank I understand your point all too well. However, one of the things that Peter insisted upon when he built this site was that people shoul dbe able to speak their minds and tell the truth about some of the unscrupulous coin sellers, self slabbers and the like. Only requirement being that it be done within the forum rules. Now most of you don't realize it because you weren't around back then, in fact Coin Talk didn't even exist yet. Peter and I knew each other long before then. But Peter was one of those sued in that fiacso started by ACG many years ago. Other members of this forum were also involved in that suit. And back then, it got to the point that people were afraid to speak the truth. So Peter wanted someplace where people could speak the truth without fear. Think of other forums where a post or thread that contains information that may be derogatory in nature about the owners/sponsors of that forum may end up with the poster being banned. Thus Coin Talk came to be. And that is why threads like this one are permitted. It is part of the foundation of Coin Talk and will never, ever change. We, as the moderators of this forum, must of course walk a fine line when deciding what is OK to say and what is not. That is why the forum rules exist. But we still must use our judgement. People have a right to know about unethical and unscrupulous coin sellers if they are to avoid them. And by the same token those being accused have the right to stand up and defend themselves here as well. Both sides of the story need to be known. And as long as all parties involved stay within the rules they will be permitted to speak. Break those rules, and action will be taken very quickly without any favoritism - ever.
Hobo, Clembo Doug, I totally agree with what you have said about this thread and about CoinTalk. I started this thread to point out what I felt was a deceptive ebay auction. We've all heard many views here and to be honest, I believed this was resolved a while back. LittleDog admitted his offenses and came to CoinTalk to explain and amend his ways. He also came here to learn. When I greet a newcomer to CT I always say the same thing. "Welcome to CoinTalk. You'll learn a lot here" I am extending that welcome to LittleDog and this should be the end of it. Bruce
As long as he also realizes that having PCGS in the title and the coin not being graded by PCGS constitutes keyword spamming which is also against eBay rules. At times it can be difficult to tightrope walk through all of the rules.
