Yup. I've had that happen before. It's odd. I had solid boxes of 2019 cents but then ended up with 5 or 6 wheats.
I was dodging these rolls. I mixed them up with alot of my other rolls. So I didnt have to look at a full box of 2020s lol
With Wheats, if they aren't at least XF/XF+ after 1930 I spend them. Pre 1930 they have to be at least VF/VF+. Let someone else collect them.
I’ve been going through all denoms in my collection for the last 3 years. All 1940 and newer, G4-F12...returned to circ. Wheats...they may be listed in guides for 5-10 cents, but then you learn LCS(s) generally only buy for 2 cents. Kinda takes the wind out of your sails. But all the better condition coins go to relatives to sell or keep to enjoy as they wish. I have already given my wheat ears and nickels to my older son, my dimes and quarters (working now) go to my younger son. Then I’ll split out equally halves and dollars and specialized items. I’m delivering them now so I get to choose who gets what with no squabbling or heartburn when I pass, and I am in very good health. It will probably take me another 5 years to finish my plan. At last check, I am returning 37-40%, on average, back to the wild. But all non-heirloom items are being liquidated. I’m checking for mintage rarity, doubling and re-grading as I go. Keeps me very busy. Drives my wife nuts (kinda)...Spark
@Amberlarry22 ...I’d have to look up the ‘20 and ‘29 for rarity, but someone will want those for a wheat set. The ‘ 50 and ‘48 are in really good shape...winners both. ...imo...Spark
The box of pennies that I have ignored (maining 2020) are Pouring out with old wheats. No MM. But that's ok. It's great finding them.
I have an estimated 30 to 35 thousand wheats all prior 1982. I too am going through them and cherry picking with the rest going back into circulation. I figure it will keep me busy for a long time and out of my wife's hair, with the exception of honey-do's that is! Thanks for the post.
