The numismatic press (Coin World, etc) has refused to mention that the DC quarter is in circulation. Why is that? anyway. has anybody seen one yet, or is no one looking?
Well, you can buy a roll on eBay for $9.95 (don't forget the $7.75 shipping charge!)... so I guess they're in circulation.
I live right outside DC, but haven't seen one yet. But to be truthful, I haven't been looking. I'll pick up some UNCs the end of March at the Baltimore show.
Congress has made sure that it never will be. They will probably will create a new extension when the "Beautiful National park" series is over in 20 years.
As of today, Feb 1, the ones on ebay are either Proof Sets or pre-orders for Mint Sets and business strike rolls. Regular circulation strikes are not yet released.
My sources tell me January 26 is the release day. I checked the mint site, and confirmed that. The site also says it may be ten weeks before they are shipped. So your guess is as good as mine when you'll see them in circulation. It might be before you can purchase one in a coin shop the way it looks!
The official release date was Jan 26 but they probably won't be delivered until next week sometime. Still, the ones on ebay are pre-orders, not actual in-hand coins.
dc quarters all: I have some. I work in downtown DC about a .5 block from the main US MINT office on 9th St. NW. I got some out of theri quarter machine last week. G.E. Also pick up some of the 09 Native American dollars as well.
Do the '09 Sacs look any better in person? For some reason or another, the lady on the reverse looked constipated on my computer!
