http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?flash=yes&action=press_release&ID=986 Really looking forward to that special set in the Spring. A special set containing a proof silver dollar and proof versions of four 2009 Lincoln one-cent coins-each bearing a design representative of a different aspect of Lincoln's life-is expected to be available in the spring. The special set will be limited to 50,000 units
Going to pick me up a couple of each myself. I remember hearing about the mint going to some of the Lincoln cents in the 95 percent composition. Is that just for proofs? Is it for all proofs or proofs only in certain sets? Would be nice if they made only the copper cents in the special set with mintage of only 50,000. I would buy a ton if that's the case.
i will pass all the modern commemorative silver dollars. at $37.95. i would rather older modern commems at half price. the same one dollar silver coin.
With all of the Lincoln fever thats going around..does anyone else think this will sell out quick? Could this rival the 2001 Silver Buffalo release? As we all know, thats a $150+ coin now.
The set will no doubt become fairly valuable providing the Cents are to be made of the original copper alloy, which I think will only be sold with this Commemorative set and the Silver Proof set. I'm just waiting on Lincolns birthday to order the Commemorative Dollars, I'll probably get the other set as well. Sorry everyone, I believe I was misinformed about the composition of the coin - my apologies.
Thanks. I was wondering about the 95 percent copper alloy Lincoln Proofs. So they are suppose to be in the 50,000 commerative set and also the silver proof sets. Can anyone confirm or provide a link to that info? Thanks.
" Mintage for the 2009 Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar is set at 500,000 coins across all product options. Available options include proof and uncirculated versions of the coin, struck in 90 percent silver. A special set containing a proof silver dollar and proof versions of four 2009 Lincoln one-cent coins-each bearing a design representative of a different aspect of Lincoln's life-is expected to be available in the spring. The special set will be limited to 50,000 units. " Where did you get the copper cent thing?, it does not ring true.
The Mint has made no announcements about what sets or how the copper cents will be sold. Anything said about them at this time is just speculation, and they did NOT say that the cents in the special set would be copper, but they didn't say they would be zinc either. They ONLY thing they have said is that they will be offered in thier annual offerings which could mean anything.
Seems that the Mint is creating some buzz regarding these Lincoln one cents. There doesn't seem to be a scheduled date of release just the fact that there will be only 50000 sets.
