This was found years ago by my father. Way before him or I even knew what a Morgan was or could be someday. My father loved to do wood working in his spare time. He had taken this and glued it to felt (sp) and then glued that to a stained piece of wood.... it gets better. Then he varnished over the whole thing. Now, back then it was just something for him to do. (tinkering if you will) Anyway I dug this up the other day and decided to remove it from its "home". My thoughts were, "well it's pretty much ruined anyway, let's see what I can do with it". I took some acetone to it and got it off the plaque, still covered in felt glue and here is my result.

Would love to see what your opinions are for a grade on this cleaned coin.

    Thanks for looking.

Wow! Looks like it was run through with a car buffer! Good thing it's a common 21D. Interesting die cracks on reverse though.

Are those die cracks on the reverse or residual glue? :kewl:

You may want to get a glass jar, with a lid, and put some acetone in it and soak this for a while, to get the varnish out of the tight spots. Acetone vaporizes fast but in a closed container, it won't and the acetone can work into the tight spots and pull out the remaining gunk. :thumb: I figure a couple of days should do it, with a slight stir occasionally. :D

    Ribbit :)

Those are die cracks on the reverse are not glue. It looks like it may be a VAM as well. Check out vamworld.com and go to there vam guide by date for Morgans and have crack at it, there are ton of VAM's for the 21'D but it neat to check through them.
