Lets see if we can tell. Would you rather have a set of Morgan Dollars Certified MS60 or Would you rather have 75 sets of Wheat cents graded G-4.
Welcome to CT , I'd have to pick collector , I collect types so I go for the best condition coin but also the most common thus cheapest coin in the type , not a good recipe for making money . Plus I have no intentions on selling my collection , And I'm hoping for grankids who will be interested as my kid has no interest at all in coins . rzage
I collect what I like, I don't collect what I hope would give me the greatest profit. Although I ease the pain of big purchases by telling myself "Its a good investment" :thumb:
I'm probably 1/3 collector and 2/3 investor. There are many coins I like available for close to melt value such as the modern gold commemoratives from the 1980s that nobody seems to like except me. Maybe someday the attitude will change, the price of gold will be higher, and they will be worth a lot more than I paid for them. The ones purchased several years ago already are.
A bit of both, but I mainly do it because I like collecting! The investor side of me looks for cheap silvers that will gain numismatic, and metal value over time!
And to your question the MS-60 set of Morgans , though really I'd rather have 50 different coin types . rzage
I'm a collector, but when I can find silver for close to melt, I buy it as an investment as well as collecting appeal.
I'd rather have the Morgans myself but not as an investment to make money from but just for a nice addition to my coin collection.
gosh finding 2008 cents in g-4 has got to be tough, but 75 of them. seeing as how 75 sets of g-4 lincolns also mean 75 09-s, 75 09 s vdb, 75 14d and 31s not to mention 24 d's etc. yeah I'd do 75 sets of g-4 lincolns. But really, I am mostly a collector even if I only put together one set of lincolns that range from g-4 to ms-66.
I'm definitely a collector, a collector of primarily Morgan dollars. I don't have the money for a lot of CC dollars and the hard to get dollars but I do have 60 Morgans from MS61-MS64. But I'd take a full set of MS60 Morgans. I just don't have the money for high end coins for investment. I'm really in it for the fun of collecting.
I am a combination collector / investor, I've found myself just looking and looking at a lot of my coins but I've only ever sold a few. I bought five sets of the 2006 Silver Eagle Sets, two months later I sold two sets recouping $400 of the original $500 investment. Now I have three sets to enjoy for only $100. These are the only collectable coins I remember selling.
I'm a collector. Been collecting coins from circulation only since 1962, cents through dollars. Never sold anything and don't suppose I ever will. Never bought a coin either. I'll pass along my 20 albums to my grandkids. I have no idea if anything I have has any value as I've never had a price guide. I doubt if I'll ever get one. I think there's no doubt, I'm a collector.
Gun to my head? Morgans. Given the choice? Neither. Well, I suppose the Morgans, the vast majority could be easily upgraded and a handful are very tough in MS60.
