What coinage or series of coins do you study most? Anyone wanna take a wild guess at mine ? stainless
Not sure what you mean by study. If you mean just looking up information on certain types of coins, that's one thing. If you mean collecting a certain type, year, denomimation and then studying those, that too is different. There are error collectors that study the error coins they collect but not ones they don't. Myself, I don't think I study any specific coins. I just collect them. If I'm working on certain set, then that is what I'm interested in at the time.
Presidential Dollars but I still can't figure out what the heck they were created for.... I now hear the strumming sound of John, Paul, George and Ringo in the rear .... he's a real nowhere man.... Ruben
I once studied the Cameo Proof's from the the 1950 thru 1964 Proof Sets as well as the AGE, ASE and APE! Lots of work there my friend!! RickieB
More specific..(Your're right in Gorgons..but what one coin do I research most?) I'll make a contest out of this...check the contest forum stainless
the two i've been most into lately are canadian silver dollars and canadian nickles from 1937-present
I have been collecting 1960 D/D DDO SD/LD cent for the last couple of years, to try and get various die states, but the prices have gotten so high, I am having trouble getting them AU or better. Have to show one !! notice the second "D" north over the strong D. and the small date ( very visible with 6 and 0) over the large date. Jim
I have been studying Jefferson nickels, buffalo nickels, and Franklin half dollars. I am working on a set of FS Jefferson nickels and have just started collecting PR-67* Franklin half dollars. In addition to these above collections I am working on a 20th century and 21st century type set collection. That is where the buffalo nickel comes in. I believe that is going to be my next coin that I purchase for my type set collection.
As far as studying: All series of Barbers, especialy for die varieties (RPM's, RPD's, etc.). Lately, also added Bust $1/2.

World gold ..... those I own and those I plan to add to my collection. Currently I'm studying the English/French Aquitaine Period, having just acquired two books on the subject.
Amazing coin. Didn't even know that variety existed. RPM and RPD with two varieties of dates!!! Already in the Red Book (no wonder they are more expensive). A little advertising and I can see this become worth a LOT more. I bet this coin is still a prime candidate for cherrypicking.
Mercury dimes, for fifty years they have been my favorite. I have four sets and just can't seem to go on to something else!!!!!!!
I started as a kid studying errors. I have more recently been studying early American coinage pre 1832 as an investment. My mentor was very much into Silver dollars, so that comes with the territory. I have a working knowledge of all US coinage and the important world pieces.
