THESE 'SILVER COINS', 'GOLD COINS' OR 'SILVER BARS' ARE MADE WITH LEAD, COPPER, NICKEL, IRON OR OTHER CHEAP METALS. edited - copyrighted material Source/photo courtesy:http://coins.about.com/od/worldcoins/ig/Chinese-Counterfeiting-Ring/
Been going on for a long time now. The fake slabs are now becoming thier latest craze. They know in China how we all think of a slabbed coin as real so they counterfeit the coins and slabs. Many have the names of all the top grading services and why not. If the coin is faked and no one can stop them, why not the slab too. I wonder just when all our coin books, folders, albums, plastic rolls, 2x2's, etc will all be made in China? And as to thier coins being made with Lead. Well we won't let them put it in our toys, so what else can they do with it? The way things are going, I wouldn't be surprized if our government outsources out coin mintages to China. Why not. They are already making a lot of it so they know how.
What is even scarier is that for their better counterfeits they are now using the correct metals and alloys. It's kind of odd that for several years recently they used all these cheap off metals in their counterfeits when back in the early seventies they were using the correct alloys and weights Sure the metals were cheaper back then but so were the coins.
Really, Really sickening. Does the government go after people like this or is it just impossible to track the Chinese con artists? Is the secret service responsible for forgeries of old coins?
The US gov't can do nothing to stop someone from counterfeiting US coins in China. What they CAN do is arrest anyone that imports or sells these Chinese counterfeits in/into the US (without being marked 'COPY' per the Hobby Act).
This is why, as I'm looking at getting into coin collecting, I plan to just buy new coins from the U.S. Mint and stash stuff away.
Major black eye on the hobby. We helped the Chinese ruin our economy since WWII. They're one of the Worlds worst polluters if not the worst. Why wouldn't they try to profit by ruining a hobby? That's nothing. The people doing this have no moral conscience. They just exist and collect a pay check unfortunately. I tell you what, I wouldn't spend a beat up zinc penny that I found on the street on ANY piece of numismatic garbage from China. I have to say I'm downright sick of Chinese made crap in general. You have to wonder how many places in the U.S. are selling BU rolls of Morgans that never get opened, that are probably these from China.
I can remember a time when the US (as well as several other countries) banned the importation of South African Krugerrands because South Africa embraced apartheid. The US (and other countries) withdrew the ban on Krugerrands after South Africa ended apartheid. Chinese Pandas a very popular in the US. Why doesn't the US consider banning the importation of Chinese Pandas until they stem the flow of Chinese counterfeits of US coins?
Sad but true. I believe that Chinese society dictates an aura of egocentrism. Unfortunately, this means that all they care about is getting more, more, more at the expense of whoever gets in their way.
You are exactly right. Coin collecting does not rank up there with human rights. Counterfeit coins from China doesn't get people protesting in the streets like apartheid. I don't think the US gov't will do anything whatsoever about Chinese counterfeits anytime soon; there are more important things to address first.
I do think it is a bigger problem than people think..They can counterfeit Morgans, Barbers, ET....next in line is our paper currency, if they already haven't started the process. I think tha could have a big effect on our economy, IMO. stainless
They are building for China,They are damaging our hobby,Faking dollars, specially morgan & peace dollars,BUY ONE GET ONE FREE!!!AT CHINA MINT! Because of these people when I was new into this hobby I bought a fake morgan dollar! I think to a coin collector the most disappointing thing is to buy a fake coin! Any fake coin! what if it was a key date & you paid very high value? what if it was gold or platinum & u paid the face value then u knew it that the gold was copper & platinum was a pieace of nickel... There are 1000s roles of unauthentic fantasy fake us coins who are going to be sold. I want someone to sing us " My little china girl You shouldnt mess with me Ill ruin everything* you are Ill give you television Ill give you eyes of blue Ill give you men who want to rule the world" *(for fake coins)
Counterfeit coins from China are but the tiniest tip of the iceberg. They make fake computers, all kinds of electronic goods like phones, ipods, PDA's, TV's & stereos, garments, shoes, furniture, jewelry, watches - you name it they make it. And all of it is just a copy of original goods marked and sold as genuine items. They also counterfeit $100 bills by the semi-truck load. And you think they (the govt.) are going to care about counterfeit coins ?
Sounds a lot like the mentality of their biggest customer, Wal-Mart. The U.S. will not limit trade with China with huge forces like that. We can as individuals boycot China as much as possible. I think it is pretty unlikely you could completely avoid Chinese goods. Just try buying toys once!
