Worst: SBA and IKE Runners-Up: Franklin 50c, Washington 25c, Kennedy 50c Least favorite designs that some people love: Barber 50c, 25c, 10c
Those sorry tokens they call a Prez Dollar is the worst design EVER. It's a crying shame the Mint tried to "Honor" our past leaders with that cheap looking thing. It's chicken scratch writing around the edge that no one can read much less make out a mint mark reliably. It looks to have been designed using the Microsoft Paint program.
Im sure people will disagree with me but i cant stand the bust designs or the seated liberty designs...just ugly
I think the clad Ike's are just plain ugly; the SBA dollar an abomination; for coins with one bad side (redeemed slightly by the obverse) the Morgan dollar (absurd portrayal of an eagle with spread wings, just look at it objectively for a minute...) and the Lincoln Memorial cent with the Diner on the reverse. There, I've said my peace.
wow WOW Ugh. That looks like some kind of british coinage. And then it looks like the woman on there is balding on the top of her head but the bottom of it is longer... kinda like a mullet or something... and then again the woman kinda looks like a man, too. and that 'eagle' looks like someone shot it and ripped out its eye. what a hideous coin... this one takes the cake.
I was waiting for this to happen!! I had the same thoughts on the coin but I never thought about switching the hair!! OMG ..... RickieB
Indeed! It makes Susie B. look like a ravishing beauty in comparison... I've always enjoyed the SBA Dollar not necessarily on its artistic merits, but on its historical aspect. I appreciate the depictions of LIBERTY on the 1792 Half Disme and on the 1793 Cent for what they stand for, but really... the portraits are just unattractive.
I think the worst design is also the design I happen to like the most - the Seated Liberty series. The overall design is great but the execution of the design sucks when you look closely at it. It looks like Liberty's head and neck were shoved about 4 inches to her left. There is no space between her neck and left shoulder but there is about 8 inches between her neck and her right shoulder. Also, her right arm seems mis-shaped and is just hanging there like an artificial arm. The elbow-to-wrist distance of the right arm is about 10% longer than the same distance on the left arm.
hmmm... never noticed that about the seated liberty. but yeah, her head does look like it's been shoved over a bit... and it kinda also makes her look broad-shouldered.
Id say the prez dollars or 06 Jefferson nickel he looks flippin scary if you ask me.. not to mention the non centerdness just bugs the crap out of me.
Allow me to correct myself. I said that Sacs were bad design as circulating money since they looked so much like another circulating coin that people wouldn't use them. Of course I meant Susan B Anthonys. Yes Hobo, I have to say that Ikes, Peace dollars and Morgans are bad designs as cikrculating money because of their size and/or weight. If people won't carry around Ikes because of their weight/size, then I'd bet that in a silver circulating coin society they wouldn't carry around Peace or Morgans either no matter how beautiful or aesethically pleasing they are. And finally, I'm arguing that it's not about intrinsic value or lack thereof. I'm saying that a bad circulating coin design is one that detracts from its functionality as money. In a shell money society I think brittle, easily breakable shells would be a bad design choice if people wanted durability and therefore wouldn't use those brittle, easily breakable shells. Anyhow that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. cal.sales
I wonder if they've come up with a holographic coin process yet? Eliminate people from the coins and go with puppies. They are almost universally beloved.
