If you had to chose between Photoshop, Correl Draw and Photosuite, which one would you chose and why? Trying to decide which to go with. Thanks.

If you're going to be doing super-serious, professional work Photoshop is the one to pick out of that group.

If all you want to do is work with your numismatic photos and would like something free, I suggest the Gimp. It's available for Windows now. http://www.gimp.org/windows/

Photoshop, only because I learned how to use it in my web design class.

Photoshop. I've used it for seven years now and I recently got CS3 Extended. I can grow into it and I'll never grow out of it. It can do whatever I need it to do.

you could try Paint.net, it was rated the most under-appreciated photo-editor of 2007 if I remember correctly. As far as I know, it's like Photoshop, but free. Photoshop was the most over-rated, but I still use it. = )

I will mention GIMP2 also. I am far from the expert user, but it seems to have everything my version of photoshop had, but it is free. I am not sure how much it has to do with familiarity (likely a lot), but so far I liked Photoshop better.

Well, support in the form of books, online help, googling, etc. has got to favor Photoshop.

It's like the old Excel versus commercial coin software. If you get stuck in Excel, you can ask the whole world, but if your not-so-well known specialized software gives you problems, it can get interesting....

PhotoScape. It does a nice circular crop; has the normal color, contrast and brightness adjustments; it has an easy to use intuitive interface; and, best of all, it's free.

    I STRONGLY recommend www.paint.net
It's free and has all the bells and whistles. And very easy to use.

Thanks gang for all your comments. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...... I probably won't do anything until this weekend when I have more time to work on it.

    Anymore comments are welcome!

I have used both Gimp and Photoshop. I would go Photoshop hands down.
Now here is where most will disagree with me--
I'm useing Photoshop 6. That is way OLD, but it was given to me :D I just downloaded the 30 Trial of CS4-E. For what I do, there really isn't all that much more added. There are a few tools that are cool, but I would hardly use them in work, so it wouldn't make much sence for me to upgrade. Plus...since I have 6 I can't just buy the upgrade, as I would need to buy the complete program again.

Be carefull of that one. My son tried to get me to use that one for sending photos over the net. I downloaded it and it made my computer go nuts. Appears it is not compatible with some other photo programs and if you have those also, you too could end up with some serious problems.
I have photoshop, coral 6, photoworks, darkroom, Microsoft digital pro, MGI photosuite SE, Serif Photoplus 6.0, Imtoo AVI, MPEG co and not even sure how many others. Every time I hear of one I try it and end up leaving it on my computer.
So far I love a program called photoworks. It's really old but people friendly. Photoshop is so complicated for me that every time I open it I stare at the screen wondering why I opened it.
MGI photosuite is the easiest to use for my limited usage.

Maybe hardly anyone supports the one I mentioned (LOL) simply because they haven't taken the trouble to take a look at it. I have looked at ALL the other ones mentioned here and I will categorically say that none of them compare to Phoroscape for most purposes and especially for coin photography. Take a look and then get back to me. Let me know what it's limitations are.
www.photoscape.org which I STRONGLY recommend. It's free and has all the bells and whistles. And very easy to use.

Well, I have taken some of your advice and downloaded Photoscape. I started to mess around with it and I love the cropping feature. Easy to use and fairly quick. I am not accustomed to messing around with the color features yet and find that it isn't as easy as photoshop. A buddy of mine that uses photoshop showed me how to really "clean" a coin up. Actually, it was kinda scary. He took one of my Morgans and really cleaned it up. Took it from a 62 to 68. Makes you wonder now when someone puts a pic up on ebay what they have done to that pic. I still need to learn how to do this on Photoscape, but had fun messing around with a few coins. Here is a before and after pic using the cropping feature. Much better don't you think?

I like that cropping effect you got with Photoscape, Joe. I think I'll give it a try.
