I decided to take a look through my roll of 55S Wheaties in hopes of finding a "BIE" Anyhow, I didnt find any. But I did find 7 of these. 7 of them from this roll looked just like the one pictured. Sorry the pic isnt the best but you can still see what Im talking about. Notice, right below the B.
Looks like a die chip to me. Nominal value, but still neat. Might get a few bucks for all of them on ebay if you want to sell them DJP. :thumb: Phoenix
No. But from the pic it look like a die chip to my untrained eye. What's under the "E?" Or is that merely an artifact of the pic?
Under the E appears to be the same thing, just not nearly as noticeable. And not nearly raised above the field as the one under the B. But thats on all the other coins as well. 7 of them out of the roll, all the same.
Die Chip.... Ebay seller jaresch always has these in ANACS 65RD slabs very reasonable, I have a whole assortment of 1955-S Lincolns in all stages of die disrepair, all 65RD, all under $10 each.......
Alright, thanks for all the replies. Ive never heard of a die chip before. But now I have and now I know I have some. I learn something new everyday on this forum.
Yes Jon, that is a BIE. I still dont think they are worth much either but that is what I was looking for. Nice Find
With all the newer error collectors appearing lately those will probably jump in value soon. Error coins are becoming a big collectable. Note how many books on coins are being produced covering errors.
Without research and just looking at the picture, my guess is there is something between the B and E of Liberty making it look like BIE instead of BE.
I just found a BIE Error 1955-S, it's MS-60 at a minimum. It looks more like a 1 in between the B & E.
True. For some reason similar ones were common on the 1955 to about 1958. I've seen many on the 57's but usually around the dates.
