Hello. I collect (among other series) Early commemoratives, and I really want a prooflike example of the Colombian Half dollar. I understand that SGS and the whole aboncom sellers are horribly unreliable sources, but are they correct? Is it really prooflike? If so, then I will bid, so I request that you not outbid me. Thank you very much for your help.

Could be But from the pics I very much doubt it , and wouldn't put any credence on a SGS slab , they're the worst tpg .

I know that they are not to be trusted, I just know that they may be right on occasion. I agree with you though. Any other thoughts from anyone?

    No no no heck no.

It's cleaned. Very badly cleaned, and no chance it would pass at any real TPG.

BIG thumbs down on this one. Unless you can get it for 50c. ;)

HAHA! No potential for that! It's 16 dollars right now, and it started at 99 cents.

Sounds like a former poster with 2 identities?
I would stay away from SGS until I could accurately grade and had a reasonable idea of prices. Even then, SGS may still be a waste of time.

 I have sold much better specimens in the raw for much less! My question is, why isn't it graded MS-70 like most of the coins graded by SGS??!! Could this Self-Slabber be getting a conscience or is he coming under some real tough scrutiny!!??

That thing is bum-fugly. Over-dipped in my opinion. And stay away from SGS - even if a broken clock is wrong twice a day that doesn't mean you're going to be happy when it is.

Don't worry. I'm not going to bid. You've saved me at least 16 dollars.

I have been collecting for 8 years now, and I can accurately grade, just prooflike coins are not my expertise.

I posted this because I doubted it was prooflike, but I didn't want to miss a potentially great deal.

How can SGS be this terrible? Why doesn't their company go out of business?

SGS does not depend on knowledgeable collectors for business. SGS's only customer is Aboncom. And Aboncom sells these overgraded bombs on eBay to people who do not know any better. There seems to be an endless supply of these buyers on eBay because, like PT Barnum said, "There a sucker born every minute."

  20. I too am quite surprised to see an MS-61

I did not think it was truly prooflike. I wonder how much it will sell for?
