I don't know what has come over me lately but all of a sudden Ive been getting into currency. This is totally not me, Iam a avid coin collector. But anyways picked up this $10 from a lady at the bank(she saved if for me along with a handful of wheats and a buffalo nickel she found.) So is this just a 1950 $10 worth just face value?? What do you grade it at. I know nothing about currency but my GUESS would be fine to maybe EF. Your opinions please
A lovely pickup Covert! The scarcest of the 1950 series actually and a star note to boot. Retail on that note in Fine is $35. You done good! clembo
OK what makes it a star.. Your talking to a true blue novice in this area. I just always would look at RickieB collection he would post and try to learn from that. I NEED to get a book and start reading.
Today is your lucky day my man. It's a star note because of the star at the end of the serial number. Usually it's a letter. Stars are replacement notes. If a note is messed up at the BEP (Bureau of Engraving and Printing) a star note replaces it while the old one is destroyed. NOT all star notes are better by the way. Just so happens you have a tough series to begin with. Second part of your lucky day is the thread I JUST POSTED! http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t46717/ Check it out. Third part of your lucky day (but it could be a curse!) You are now on your way to becoming a paper junkie as well. There's a lot to be found out there. You just gotta know what to look for. BTW RickieB DOES know his stuff. I tend to dabble in it a bit as well as a few other here. clembo
nice note! did you pick it up at face? Clembo is right (as usual lol) once you get the currency bite, you are well on your way to being an addict once you realize it, however, its already too late
very awesome pick up indeed. if you do ever want to trade or sell it let me know. like clembo said in that condition about $35. i just really want it because it fits nicely into my chicago collection. i have currency and coins to trade. :hail::hail::hail:
Covert... Great Find! Keep that note as the basis of your new interest in collecting Paper Money! Look at the way that note has been cut! It is very close to being an error note as well. The upper SN is almost into the design...look close with a loop and see. The Bottom margin is very narrow which may be the cause for the paper alignment being tha far off. It is not a significant amount of adjustment to warrant being a true error note but it is close...LOL Post the Reverse of that note as well!! (Please) Keep it keep it keep it! The Series 1950 E $10 Chicago Stars are printed to 4,320,000 notes! Small amount considering, plus this Series was only printed for New York , Chicago and San Francisco Districts!! I will estimate that the note will grade out from a Fine 15 to a low VF anywhere from $35 to $50 USD Regards, RickieB
Can't be that common, found me one just last year in the wild http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t31320/ (about 6th post down) All joking aside, that is an awesome find OP. Congrats and here's hoping that you are hooked.
