Today,A coin dealer showed me two holed coins(drilled hole),He told me these are ultra-rare coins & he asked for 45$ for each one.which =s 90$ for two holed coins. one had the date 1669 the other 1815. I looked on the net about 1669 & found that the holed coin he showed me was austrian, Leopold coins. 1815 I didn't find yet,it was written Hispania Gratia.. My question: Does a holed coin has a numismatic value? a coin that worth 100$ what will it worth if it was holed? $50? $10? $1? $0.01? Will you buy "holed" One of a kind coin?(if you find)
the second one is Ferdin VII 1815,here in the photo is 1814. I found this on ebay,it's priced US $89.00 is it the same price for 1815? how much should I pay for that holed one? TY
hm, I can't say, I'd have to see the detail of the coins, I have purchased a few quite rare holed coins, such as a US 1852-O dime, with a very low mintage in aVG. and I paid $2 for it. So I don't know, but $45 for any 1660's Austrian Leopold coin witha hole in it sounds pricy to me, unless it was in extremely high grade. I don't know about the Spanish one, depends on the mintmark, and again, the grade is most important.
I will buy holed coins but only if they are dirt cheap and there are some coins that are commonly holed, like Fugios and I have 1 holed Fugio. Last night, on Ebay, a seller had quite a few holed colonials and I would have bid on several but the prices went too high so I never bid on any of them, although I would have loved to have them. A hole pretty much destroys a coin's value and rarity is the only thing that will help to offset it and that's why holed Fugios still fetch a decent amount, depending on condition. Ribbit
Yes but - I would buy a holed coin if it was a tremendous bargain and key date - unfortunately the man that could fix it and even fool the grading companies in KY. is gone and only his son is left and I do not know how good he is. I sent a guy to the old man about 8 years ago with 09-S VDB in VF-35 that had a hole at 12 noon. He had to pay a lot and wait a long time but when it came back "my O my" - any one of you would have been proud to have it - I mean he was the greatest. That coin looked good and would fool 9 out of 10 seasoned coin dealers. But nothing last forever - I hope you'all know there are doctors (fixers) of coins out there with a tremendous amount of talent - you would not believe it!! Before you'all jump on me,,, Now I am not advocating this practice to fool or deceive so don't jump all over me I'm just saying for great coins that have a problem there are some real artists. I have the 1959 Proof Great Britain half penny. Krause has it listed for $300. To bad it has a hole drilled through it. Olmanjon. edited
Well i have a fugio in pretty decent condition and I would like to fix the hole ,but will it bounce back the value of the coin if that is done to it? I would like to know were to send it to be repaired if anybody has an idea i would love to know. Please PM ME IF YOU KNOW THANKS Jazzcoins Joe
I have heard of him but when did he depart? A friend told me he did awesome work and I was thinking of sending a few to him, now I'll have to find someone else. Ribbit Ps: They restore paintings and that's no different than fixing a hole, but it should never be sold without acknowledging it is plugged.
The coin you pictured above is only worth about $40 - and that is without a hole. I would not pay more than $20 tops for a holed example.
If done properly, it will add value but not as much as it will cost, unless it's a highly desireable piece (aka: rare). Ribbit
It just has been said around my coin show - Now I just heard the old man is dead and I pretty much believe it but of course could be wrong - I do no see his ads in NN or Coin World anymore but I do not know for sure he may still be with us, I ain't tried to call him or nothing so,,, As to whether to coins value would go back to what it would be without the hole I don't think so. I would have to tell anyone I was selling it to first to fully disclose and be honest about it - I would say that this would only be for a multiple hundred dollar type coin because I'm sure he is charges a hundred or so - but for this 09-S VDB I was talking about it probably improved it $400 worth from what it was. Also the best type of application for this sort of thing would be a key coin, good grade to begin with, no jewelery had been attached hurting the edges and most important of all he wanted to keep the coin for him and his heirs - this was them a perfect application of the repair for that coin. Hope this helps - if anybody knows if the old man is alive let us know please - I met him once and he was a legend to say the least - his son had the same name though as he did. Ben Peters
Thank you GDJMSP for the informationsI think there should be a Formula: Like : Price of the coin in G condition Divided by two.You can buy a Holed 1909-S VDB as= G4 over 2 = 750 over 2= 375$OR Holed Morgan Dollar 1893-S as= G4 over 2= 2,900 over 2= 1450$& as we have cameo coins, proof coins,MS65 ect ect Holed coins should be called Donuts!
Just because a coin is holed or damage doesn't mean that it is genuine! There are cases of key dated coins being damaged, holed, chopmarked etc but they can be counterfeits. Again, unless the price asked is a bargain, you shouldn't be considering it as an excellent source of investment!
holed coin from india hi These types of holed coins can be still found in coin markets in India. Regards Thomas
