Here is one I have had for about 4 years. It was given to me by my coin guy as he did not know what it is either. It appears to be some kind of waffling. The cuts are just deep enough to go through the raised portions on both sides. The date is 1964. Any ideas?
I can onestly say that I have never seen anything like that coin I hope someone comes along who can explain it otherwise I say Aliens did it LOL
post mint damage I would say post mint damage. I don't think it a waffle cancelled coin yours looks more like a pancake to me.:eat: I think a person that does the strange crop designs got a hold of this coin. post mint damage This is what a waffle cancelled coin looks like below. I also think that aliens could have took it up on there craft :vanish:an used a device called thueromiantuu to damage the coin and tell us that there among us. Also could be post alien damage I know of this device i was abducted about ten years ago, and they gave me a strange haircut with it. That's why they call me UFO JOE for short . :vanish: jazzcoins joe
LOL. Well, I trust you guys won't mind if I try to find out more than "the aliens did it." The marks are very uniform in spread and depth. I am hoping some expert can tell me at least that this was mint damage? :hammer:
No mint damage, There is nothing in the minting process that would cause this - it would have also been caught by the riddler and several other functions that weed out errors - this coin went to a machine shop during somebody's lunch break and they abused it with "who knows what or really cares" type of lathe making tools or punches or hammers or ????? But it ain't mint damage, Just this experts opinion of course. Ben Peters
The mint has used those waffling machines for years, many years. That's exactly what it is - a rejected coin.
WOOHOO!:high5::hug::thumb: (Didn't add the kiss. Thought it was a little much) LOL You made my week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :goofer:
I have every intention of keeping it. I don't know if it's worth anything to anyone but me, but thinking of having it certified.
Here's another waffle cancelled coin a statehood quarter/ RC Bruce could you show the edges of the coin please with some pics just curious Jazzcoins Joe
it's a fake that;s been established a long time ago it's an old thread it's post mint alien damage Alien Jazec
It looks like your coin matchess the OP's. What can you tell us about a jeweler's rolling mill and how or why it would make the pattern shown?
A rolling mill has a flat section and also has a groved section to roll out square wire, each grove is slightly smaller then the previous, so if you put a flat piece of metal on the roller thats wider then the groves it will just compress the flat area forcing the metal into the grooves giving it a waffle effect.
Wow that;s cool I always new the coin was a fake Thank you for showing us this and explaining it to us very interesting indeed . I always new it looked more like a pancake coin instead of a waffle rejection coin now i no why. i do like pancakes better anyway, but they have to be cooked. Alien JAZEC from the planet ZECTAS
