    Aloha Folks -
Buckle in, as we are about to board a flight on Yeti Air and head to a coin shop in Bahktapur, Nepal!
My wife just returned from a business trip way out there - and while walking the crowded streets she stumbled upon this amazing shop:

Let's get a closer look at those trays, shall we -

Now, my wife wasn't planning on shopping, and didn't have much cash on her. After much debate about what coins I'd like, she selected three coins for me. Good thing I wasn't there, as I would have sold the clothes I was wearing to walk off with the entire contents of both trays :)

Here is what she brought home for me:

I've done my best to get some good close ups:

I'd love to learn more about these coins. The shop owner spoke very little english, and all my wife could learn is that the very small coin is from Tibet. Is this true? I eagerly await any info you experts can pass on!

    Mahalo,

Those trays would be interesting to browse. The one tray looks to be full of Nepalese rupees, paisas, etc, and chinese cash. In the other I see some tourist fakes, but the other stuff might be OK.

Sorry I can't help with the identifications.

I was in Kathmandu many many years ago but it was before I started collecting coins.

Oh, all the cool ones I missed.

The one with the humped cow and the one below it are both Indian, the square one looks like a Malwa Sultanate Tanka, I hope that this is some help

Ps just did a bit of quick checking and the humped bull might well be from the Naga Dynasty

The owner of this shop is Suresh Jyoti Shakya who has been dealing in Nepalese, Tibetan and Indian coins for the last 20 years.

I like this Parthian. It looks a bit too neat. Fake? If not I want one.

That one and several beside it. The one beside it stood out when I first saw the picture :) It looks like a coin of Baktria, like Antimachos I I think...these coins are some of the finest the ancient world produced when it came to portraits:

It would be very valuable and, no insult intended, but I doubt I would take the chance. :)

Get outta town! I can't believe how small the internet makes the world. How do you know him? Do you deal with him often? My wife said he is extremely nice, and that he keeps his real valuable coins in containers in the back. two of the "special" bowls are open on the counter in the first photo (behind the right tray).
