Another recent addition to my gold type set. This one is also ANACS graded in a problem free blue slab. It has a slight amount of remaining luster in the protected areas and some toning, but has obviously seen a lot of circulation. I believe that ANACS may have overgraded this one slightly, but they were pretty close. I paid accordingly. Sooo, another one to grade! What would you grade it and what do you think ANACS gave it?:D

Another one that's just gorgeous! :D

I'm going to say ANACS gave it a VF-35 ;)

If they put that in a problem free slab then they need to have their eyes examined.

WOW! Good call. right on the money! I would give it a 30 personally, but it looks nice and original to me.

The problem with the Dansco type set is that there are no holes for these coins and I feel there should be. This was my solution to the dilemma is to velcro the slabs and plastic cases to the rear album cover. So they are displayed next to the rest of the gold when the album is open. In order to make room for this, I removed the bicentennial/silver eagle page, as I don't care to collect those. I still need a certified $3 gold coin slabbed that will fit right below the classic head quarter eagle. And I need the $20 liberty. I also have several that need to be upgraded. But this is what it looks like so far.

I am sorry to say that I agree ...looks like it was a jewelery piece, do not get me wrong, I like the coin, I just do not think it meets the grade. None the less, gold is gold and it is a nice addition.
Thanks for sharing it..I love gold coins.

Is it the scratches or the fact that there looks like dip residue around the devices? Just curious - do not know a whole lot about gold.

Ooops - forgot to mention that gold page does look great.

Looks good to me besides the scratches from either circulation or cleaning ;)

Looking at the coin in hand, it doesn't look dipped or have signs of ex-jewlery as far as I can see(I don't have a clear shot of the rim). There is some toning, and there is also some remaining luster that isn't shown in the photo. A few of the scratches are on the slab, but the coin does have a few scuffs and scratches. When purchasing a coin of this value, I usually compare it with several dozen certified examples on Heritage before I make a decision. Anyways, I suppose it could be cleaned, but it doesn't have anywhere near the type of "cleaned" look that I've seen on other cleaned gold pieces.

The two $10 gold pieces in my set I purchased for melt around a year ago when I was buying gold as bullion. They are most certainly cleaned, and due for an upgrade.

    thanks for the comments.

That's a nice gold type you have there. Post some pics when you get those holes filled.

Perhaps I should better clarify my remarks...when I said it looks like a jewelery piece, I mean that the surfaces are similar to those coins that have been mounted in a bezel. I had such a coin and the surfaces were really messed up!
I am not saying that it came from a bezel at all....hope that clears things up a little. Still a nice coin!

I see what you are saying Rickie. There are a few scuffs. One thing I have noticed with my camera anyways, is that any little ding or scratch gets strongly magnified when I photograph it compared to what it looks like in hand. Here is an example of an MS 1970-s small date that I pulled fresh out of an unopened mint set. The coin looks nicked up in the photograph, though it actually looks decent in hand.

Thanks Hobo! I've been extra cautious about that $3 piece. I've been tempted with a couple, but haven't bit yet. That one still intimidates me some.

Maybe it's the lamp/light source you are using?

The Classic would intimidate me more than $3 would I still need both , I like how you fit the coins in , I probably would have tried to cut a hole in the album and wreck it :headbang:, nice job .
