Talk about revisionist history. The primary reason the ANA sent bid forms to all those TPG's was to try and generate a higher sale price for their endorsement. The ANA specified a floating price structure based on the number of companies that were willing to pay the freight (which was substantially greater that what NGC had previously paid) and met the ANA standards. The biggest cry baby the last time the ANA sold their endorsement was PCGS. They even ran full page ads in Numismatic publications blasting the ANA. So, if the objective was only to address the previous process, then why on earth didn't any grading company including PCGS accept the ANA's offer. In fact, even NGC refused to submit a bid under those circumstances. The answer is clear. The TPG's, being proficient at manipulation saw through the ANA's attempt to manipulate the amount of the purchase price for their endorsement. Everyone would do well to realize that PCGS created the business model that SGS has taken to another level. By their own admission, the PCGS gang of founders and authorized dealers were stiffing the buying public before and after PCGS was started. In many cases a one or two point overgrade by PCGS could amount to thousands of dollars whereas even a 20 point overgrade by SGS is only likely to amount to less than a C note, so who is the biggest scam artist. Furthermore, just because certain TPG's have a marketing system that gives the illusion of credibility doesn't ligitimize their tweaking of the standards over time in order to hide their overgrading. It simply amazes me how collectors buy into the buzz words and phrases being spoon fed to them by the TPG's. "First strike", "shipwreak effect", "market grading", "frame of reference", "grade guarantee" (what the really guarantee is their opinion and their opinion only) "aspire to greatness" and on and on. I look forward to the next creation that is designed solely to relieve the collector of more of their hobby funds. What ever happened to critical thinking?
Just spread the word - it's the cheapest and the most cost effective. Forums like this are the most useful and where collectors gather and share their experience. Of course, one of SGS's "representatives" have been here and haven't shown anything intelligent other than insulting forum members.
check this guy out on ebay buckley2386( 24) 1377 purchases from aboncom since may of last year. All have positive feedback from him. This person has no sell items in this time frame. Who could purchase all these coins and not sell any of them? Something definitely odd here.
There are people who have 2 different eBay accounts - one for buying and one for selling. There arevalid reasons for doing that.
OK. I am going to put on my tin foil hat and do the conspiracy thingy. Lets look at the possibilitys. Buckley. SGS is owned by Larry. LLLLLLLLLLL Ohio is Buckeye Buckeye with an L is Buckley
Ofcourse there are people with two id's. I came to this site just as everyone here had hoped....because I was researching SGS. I have been recently adding to my collection buying on Ebay and saw the MS70 rated coins. I checked the PCGS website for the 1945 P wheat penny and it doesn't list any higher than MS67 and a price of $1650. Being a little "smarter than a fifth grader" (Jeff F.) I immediately wanted to understand there way of grading but even to this point I still haven't checked for one (if it does exist). Besides that there was no reserve bid. If I had a $1600 coin for sale there would sure be at least a $1000 dollar minimum reserve not 99 cents. Thankfully due to this forum I will never buy from aboncom or any SGS coins. As far as my research went...my job is a business analyst and I get paid to observe. My observation indicates that the majority of his sales go to other "power buyers" who seem to give feedback (positive) on every single purchase. I can tell you I don't have the time to give 30 feedbacks on Ebay in one sitting and will give one per multiple purchase. Also the negative feedback is coming from single purchase buyers who all seem to be unhappy with the quality and response from aboncom. Thanks again to the forum for preventing another possible victim.
The past case of PCGS and the current complaints against SGS aren't identical, but they are similar enough that similar action could be taken against SGS. What would have to be done to initiate such action? And who would be willing to step up and get it going? I haven't been, and won't be, harmed by anything SGS has done so I don't really have a dog in this fight, but apparently many others have been harmed financially. It's one thing to complain and spread the word after the fact; it's quite another thing to take positive and proactive actions.
SGS is just one of many reasons I refuse to shop ebay anymore. These guys running ebay aren't stupid. They know about SGS. They're millionaires for Pete's sake. They won't stop SGS because it brings them income. Do your part and boycot ebay.
I believe the solution to stopping SGS is this: 1. Submit Top Tier slabbed coins to them for regrading/slabbing and fully document it. 2. Acquire counterfeits in counterfeit Top Tier slabs and submit them along with the ones above and fully document it also. 3. When they are returned in a SGS slab with a higher grade, including the counterfeits, then you have a case of deception/fraud that can be proved and to top it off, you can then "advertise" that SGS slabs counterfeit coins. If it got out that SGS is also known to slab counterfeit coins, that will do them even more harm than their own deceptive practices. I believe they wouldn't take the time to authenticate already slabbed coins and they also wouldn't take the time to authenticate the slabs they are in, so I'd be willing to be they'd all come back slabbed by SGS and with a higher grade than the Top Tier TPG's gave them originally. What if a person submitted a known counterfiet coin to SGS? Maybe it would prove they are ignorant as well as dishonest.
Thier web pagelists a single submission of $10.00, lists an address, and you can even print off the form right from the site. So yes, I'm afraid they do claim to accept grade submissions on their website.
Their website is a joke. They even use sitemeter for their traffic monitoring, now thats classy! Curious to see who is on their site? Just click the little rainbow box in the bottom left corner of their page. Also love the random periods and capitalization they use. Laughable.
I wasn't aware of that fact. That means they are not a TPG but rather, nothing more than a self-satisfying self-promoting self-slabber. That is flat out wrong! :computer: Ribbit

I think they should change the form so it's closer to the truth: "We grade uncirculated coins. We grade Proof Dollars. We grade all Proof coins 1936 and forwards." to: We grade circulated coins uncirculated. We grade Proof Dollars PR-70. We grade all Proof coins 1936 and forwards PR-70. Now that sounds closer to the truth! :goof: Ribbit
