Opinions are only as good as the person offering the opinion. If someone doesn’t know anything about Jefferson Nickels, which you don’t, then your opinion is as valid as toilet paper. Same goes for Buffalo Nickels, which are highly prized when beautifully toned.

You know ZERO about what I do and do not know about Jeff Nickels.

I agree with this - but I have yet to see a vibrantly toned Buffalo Nickel anywhere in this thread that would be "highly prized." I said the coin Paul posted was beautiful (we're in agreement there), but it is simply not toned enough to be anywhere near a monster in my opinion.

In brg5658's world, this coin shown above is "highly toned" while the Buffalo shown below is "barely toned."

And btw, my score of 1.0 was a hyperbolic score to show what happens when you apply the Morgan Dollar standard for toning on coins outside the series. Still, the coin has some rather mundane blue peripheral toning with some orange in the interior. Those colors are typical of a secondary toning and luster looks muted, it deserved a low score.

I know that you’re expertise in toned coins is pathetic. You own a couple of toned half crowns and crowns. One you posted was downright hideous, with terminal toning. People weren’t rude to you, but the coin was ghastly looking. Obviously, your momma never taught you not to say anything, if you can’t say something nice. All your comments are unduly negative, and not positive constructive. So, I can only assume you know nothing about nickels, and what is considered prized toning. Then again, if you were wrong, you would never admit it.

Honestly, had you simply said the toning on the Buffalo lacks vibrancy, nobody would have questioned you, but when you try to claim the the coin is "barely toned" it makes it look like you are being obtuse.

I agree with all of this, hence why my score was 4.5 for the Buffalo.

I apologize @ddddd for what seems to be a recurring combative round-and-round with certain posters here. Their self-worth seems to revolve around their coins. Any disagreement with the self-proclaimed "experts" are immediately met with derisive victim-playing.

For the record, and for probably the 5th time let me state that:

    1) My opinions are simply that - mine.

    2) My opinion of a coin is not an opinion of the coin poster.

    3) I can only give opinions of what I can actually see - if the pictures are not accurate, then don't expect my opinion to match yours.

Self worth? Now you are a psychiatrist? Good lord, man! Why don’t you just leave? You disrupted this thread multiple times with your arrogant nonsense, and put downs. You’ve picked on several collectors who tend to be positive and you aren’t. Don’t you just get the message? You are way over your head here in terms of coin expertise.

You are the one who constantly resorts to personal attacks. I score coins - you take it personally - rinse, repeat.

Some self-reflection seems to be in order for you.

Oh please, says the guy who is still butt hurt over me me giving his coin a 1.0 score like 50 pages ago.

You don't have the moral high ground, if you reread the entire thread, almost every disagreement has something in common, YOU!

I have reflected deeply. You are acting like a 5 year old. Right now, you are arguing with two very experienced collectors, who have knowledge, and experience. You have neither. In fact, I have never seen a single positive-constructive post in this entire forum by you. Your ego must be awfully damaged, for you to be constantly on the attack. Actually, I pity you. Paul and I both try to back our opinions up with facts and experience. You have neither. All you’ve managed to do is hijack this thread, and that is terribly immature.

I give ZERO damns what you scored my coin. I only bring it up because it immediately comes to mind. My self-worth is not intertwined with an oxidixed disc of metal (as yours seems to be).

There are at least a half dozen coins (not all mine) in this thread for which you have assigned inconsistent and (sometimes) self-contradictory scores. That's fine - but it's pretty hilarious that you get to say you were partaking in "hyperbole" when you assigned a score, but I'm not allowed to give a valid and completely consistent score of 3.0 to a barely toned (super common date, and nothing overtly special) Buffalo Nickel.

I call it like it see it. The disagreements may include me more often because I don't put up with your self-proclamation of being infallible. There are two self-proclaimed experts in all things "toned coins" in this thread - and I am not one of them.

Oh really? I try to share knowledge about coin series that I have collected for decades. All you do is keep repeating your kiddie mantra of “axial lighting.” Name one positive contribution you have made on this forum. Answer—none. There YOU go again!! :)

I happen to know a lot about photographing coins. When I actually know something about things, I try to chime in and offer advice.

I can't help that you can't photograph coins and you don't seem to be willing to try to improve. Maybe if you learned how to photograph coins you wouldn't get so offended when people try to guess what a coin actually looks like from sub-par photos.

Everybody takes sub-par photographs but you??? Talk about being lost in your own ego. Would love to continue this wonderful, teachable moment, but I need to go work. You know, like earn money to buy sub-par photographed coins. Bye now. ;)

You act as if all 7,500 of your posts on these boards have been profound. Ooh...another pretty widget Morgan...earth shattering.

You'll also note that the threads to which I was replying (your posts) were not teachable moments by you. They were just "look at this coin" posts. Which is it - you're a profound teacher or you're just posting here on a hobby board like everyone else??
