  1. Is it worth the aggravation to send it to PCGS for Grading, or should I just take it to a coin shop and hope for the best?
I did submit a 1939 Nickel, in outstanding shape with partial steps intact. No one seemed interested in it. I was told to take it to coin shop.

Do you really want to waste your money on a common dated coin ? Even in MS it's still under $20 . The grading cost plus return shipping fee is more than that .

The following sites have comprehensive listings of doubled dies. Before you consider sending it for attribution, you should see if you can find an EXACT match and then confirm that PCGS will attribute that variety. They only attribute a few found in the Cherry Pickers Guide, so if you send a random coin, it may come back without attribution.

    www.varietyvista.com

Also, you need to post cropped pics. 20% of the pic shows the coin and 80% shows the background which doesn’t help. Even blowing up your pics, I can’t see any doubling

Also, keep in mind, there's a MDO ......

@Leonard Quick Sr ...Welcome to the forum. I, too, see no doubling...your coin appears to be less than Mint State, with some serious facial and neck abrasions, so not a candidate for TPG grading nor attribution.

Still it is silver and as such, worth hanging onto. They are common, and a coin shop is going to give you melt or less, if they want the silver. You might want to accumulate more than a single coin before you try to make it worthwhile for both you and them...imo...Spark

From your pic's it looks like you have rim deterioration. Better pic's would help but it is not a good idea to have it graded in my opinion. Good luck

  11. Being new at this coin collecting and sale business, Believe me when I say Thank You for your in put... Under the AmScope the DDO is vey visible. However I am taking the photos with a Cannon hand held camera. Not too much detail. Thanks again.

You mentioned that you're new to coins. Make sure you know the difference between a true doubled die and Mechanical and die deterioration doubling. This trips up a lot of new collectors. MD and DDD are very common and don't add any value to the coin. It's uncommon finding a true doubled die, which occurs when the working hub shifts slightly during one of the pressing steps in making a working die. If you go to www.doubleddie.com and click on the tab marked "Worthless Doubling", you'll find a good explanation.

Until you're good at knowing the differences, it's best to check that site for known Doubled Dies.

Nice background. I don't see any error on the coin or the background. My advice to you is to crop out the background to enlarge the coin and report...this time without the background. Last time I check, this was a Coin site...not a tablecloth site!

Welcome to the group. All that needs to be said, has been said, so the only thing I can add is that you need a photo manipulation app to improve the photos you do have. If you are just uploading photos from your camera directly to the forum, you aren't going to give us much to work with. They need to be cropped, as already mentioned, so almost none of the background shows. Then when we click on the full size pictures they will enlarge enough to give us a better view of the coin. https://www.remove.bg is a good site you might try. Good luck.

By the way, I voted All. LOL, you can loose the polls. They really aren't necessary for your post.

Not worth your time to deal with this. It's a common coin. Welcome to CT.

@Leonard Quick Sr. Welcome to Coin Talk. I looked at your posts and can't find anything about a 1939 nickel. When/where did you submit it? Who told you to take it to a coin shop? :)
