Can someone shed some light on this coin.....

  1. 1991 D Penny with doubling of some kind behind the phrase "in god we trust" as well as on the reverse side.

    NAV Doubling or No Added Value Doubling. Very common on coins minted 1982 to date. It's that darn zinc.

    Welcome to CT Vincent. As mentioned, cents minted towards the end of 1983 and forward are zinc coated with a thin layer of copper. The copper layer has a way of adding all types of anomalies and doubling like your coin is one of them. Keep up the hunt and post what you find here.
