So I had a friend of mine with zero knowledge on coins. Try to purchase me a second coin . And yes I know it’s immoral and unfair but I did it as a chance to get one . As I missed out in 2019 . I offered him 130 to buy one for me and I’d send him the money before hand . He said Na just pay me if I get it. He thought the order didn’t go through and then it said sold out . Well he gets a email yesterday saying his order went through. Then sends me a link of one selling for 600 on eBay. Asking if thats the same coin . I’m like yeah, how about i give you 350 then. And he gives me a story of needing the money ( step dad got him a job making over 100k and has no kids or drug habit etc lol and mom pays cell phone bill etc ) and he would sell it to me for 600 depending on what ebay shows for pricing once the coin gets delivered.
Now would you guys be a little peeved? I kinda get his point of view . And he’s going to now try for the medal coming on the 9th and is looking at all the stuff now . but he agreed to do it for 150 and I even offered more .
I eventually said “just keep it. But imagine if the coin ended up being worth 20-30$ and I said well sorry you didn’t accept the prepayment. But I don’t want the coin ttyl buddy” I’ve yet to get a response.
Please don’t bash me for doing this . I’m sure dealers etc do it with 100’s of people .

Well apparently they value the extra $250 over your second offer more than your friendship.

Are you saying you got screwed because your "friend" now wants more money for it?

Or are you saying you "friend" got screwed because he now has a coin that he doesn't want? And now they're going to start buying stuff from the mint to flip?

Or are you saying nobody got screwed, but if the price of the coin dropped to $30, you would have screwed your friend?

Reneging on a deal is obviously a pretty scummy move whether the person is a friend or not. I can't help but criticize your involvement also. Even before this went on sale, based on the presale offers at CU and on ebay, I would consider $130 to be a lowball offer. I think the better option, with a friend or family is involved, would be to make an agreement to split the profits evenly down the middle. SO, in a way, I can't put all of the blame on the friend for backing out of a crappy deal.

Good deals create good relationships. Good deals are equally beneficial for both parties. When the benefits of a transaction are greatly lopsided, it is not a good deal for one of the parties.

This is why I don't beg my friends and family to purchase limited mintage items from the mint for me. My personal relationships are more valuable to me than money in my pocket.

I let my son know about the coin and told him if he could get one Pinehurst is offering $400 for the coin. Well low and behold he got one. I on the other hand got shut out. I told him it was great he got it because he could use the money. He told me no dad I want to give it to you. That made my day.

I had offered him a 40/60 split on the coin with me getting the 40% and listing it etc ... “ he would think about it once it came in” meanwhile 10 years ago I personally financed him a diesel truck and took payments for 5 years ...

I've done the same for friends, family, son, daughter, siblings. The family haven't responded as well, relative to friends, but a finance offer might be considered a gift/investment to reduce further requests.

Regardless, an offer/funds are just the cost of lifes education, and I don't believe it should adversely affect relationships.

Fortunately, others have been available for me who deals virtually strictly in cash, because of my financial bank experiences, with NO credit rating.

Friends/family are considered my best assets.

Money makes people do stupid things.

I don't know if I'd ditch a long-term friend over something like this, but I sure wouldn't be inclined to trust him with money again.

I’d just pass and tell him to sell it himself. He’s trying to emotionally manipulate you to milk money out of you. I don’t let such people anywhere near my money

Your friend has said he would help you out and he is renigging on the offer by asking for more money. Not a cool move on their part. I would not be happy if it went down like that.
