Hello all, I got this piece in and am very excited about it especially after reading some history on it! I know there’s some issues due to it being black and wish there was something I could do to bring it back to life but either way the condition is phenomenal and can’t believe I found this piece! I’ll attach some quick pictures to share with you all! best regards.
To be honest I have no idea what to do with this coin (smartest) thing to do.. I saw the pictures and knew it was something special but it was fairly hard because the pictures were extremely dark so my jaw dropped to the floor when I pulled this out of its package today to say the least..
You could attempt sodium thiosulfate, which dulls the surface. Leave it in a Manila envelope for about 20 years to reincarnate a good tone. Or, enjoy it as is because it looks pretty cool
Holy smokes lol! I don’t even know where to begin with that chart I’ll have to look into it more later when I have time tonight Lol
You would hate me if I told you! Let’s just say you have to be grateful for people that take pictures of dark coins in very dark lighting!
Do you think I should get this graded at the least? I don’t know if the all black exterior will be sent back just environmental?
Is it damage though? Idk of horn silver (if that what causes the black) is considered damage or just terminal toning
i expect it would come back details for the damage to the 1 (or is that damage?) as for the envoromental that's almost a sure thing. But... getting it slabbed will increase it's value with just a "Genuine" label
I can't wait to get mine in hand and some good pictures the ones in the flip ain't great nor bright nor detailed as i would like (which like yours helped me get a great price)
