This is the other half of my acquisitions today. I'm sure I over paid for this one as well. It was so clean in the hand and bright I thought the thing was a fake.

I looked at it very carefully and i don't see any hairline scratches on it. Show me what your looking at.

Hmmm, it looks like there is a wipe mark on the coin's obv. At the 34 going up across the back of the bust and through the trust, otherwise it has an average strike IMO, but I'm no expert on the Peace series.

okay, is it just me or does anyone else think that this was polished?

If just me, please ignore me.

I don't think it was abrasively cleaned.
On the other hand dipped is certainly a possibility.
The surfaces seem uniform and a bit lifeless.
Also I see no hint of hourglass reflectivity.

I'll stick with cleaned, but not abrasively.

    Altered surface

The photos don't show luster or a matte surface. It appears like the surface is altered. Perhaps it was polished? [I would expect to see scuff marks on the surface but all that remains are the small contact marks & no scuffs].

    Very best regards,

The obverse has a dull, lifeless look. I could duplicate that look with a baking soda blast* but I'm not saying that was done here.

*use an air brush to spray a water/baking soda mix at medium pressure. Sort of a lightweight sandblast.

I have to agree, the coin does have a polished look to it.

You think it is also a body bagged coin?

Whoever said earlier it looks like an average strike I would strike I would have to agree, but still a wonderful coin. It is hard to tell from the photos, but does this coin cartwheel?

When I look at Peace dollar strikes I look at the reverse, specifically the Eagle's back and tail feather. This coin had a very distinct eagle, and I was impressed with that. It certain has a cartwheel shine.

BTW - I just brought it to a local dealer I generally trust and he said it was likely dipped at some time, but he didn't see it as problematic at all or polished. Now that is one persons opinion, and the price seems to be about where the grey sheet would put it, even below an MS63. So I don't hate myself for this at the moment.

I like it, some nice detail. Is there a little mechanical doubling on the "G" in " IN GOD WE TRUST" on the obverse?
