So strange! Every time I think I've seen the most terrible ad another one comes up to take it's place! I hope nobody here made this bid! I know it's a rare date but would you buy it? Any comments? https://www.ebay.com/itm/133564070300?_trksid=p2471758.m4703
I wouldn't. For the most part I am not a set-maker for quarters. I take the best examples I find and keep them. This would be a pass from me. Money better spent on a Morgan.
Yes, mostly all of us collect the same way! I understand looking for a rare date and mint mark, but this quarter doesn't deserve a second look at all!
Looks like that bidder has a feedback number of 21,000+ so could be a dealer knowing he has the ability to flip at a profit. edit; looks like the bidder collects halfs and quarters based on bid history
I like coins with "history" but I prefer a gentler history Then again on a rare/hard to get/very expensive coin, i might accept it as a filler if the price was right
The dealer has a 100% rating with nearly 1500 reviews and the coin seems to be accurately presented. The $250 bid is opening (minimum) price. I see two (2) likely scenarios, either... 1. Someone was surfing new listing late at night...after a few adult beverages, or 2. The dealer, knowing that many people filter out "no bid" auctions, has an employee (or someone they know well) to enter an initial bid...costing the seller the auction fees if no one else bids.
Or 3. It's someone like myself who simply doesn't care whether or not he can recoup his money and wants to fill the hole but can't afford the 1200+ dollars an undamaged example in this grade would cost.
This one would be screaming in pain Quite likely. If I was collecting seated quarters by date and mint I would be willing to buy it, but I'm not sure I would go that high for it. Some of us do collect truly rare coins, but have budgets that make a coin over a few hundred a stretch.
