Hi Guys, I know this is coin related, but not coin technically, seemed like coin chat was the best place to pose the information and question about it, so here goes.. I've been looking pretty hard for one of these for a while now, kind of curious if you've seen one or have one. This is a Whitman folder, #9026. It's not a 9026A or 9026B which started in 1944 and more common to find. This is an all in one oversized folder. I've been kind of headhunting for a relatively decent one for my first edition set, as it's the first version of this set album from the 2nd edition series, and in 1944 they went to a 2 folder set to make it more manageable. I'm interested in acquiring one of these in relatively good condition hopefully. And no I don't use the folders anymore, it's kind of a side collection thing, I was given about a dozen of the first edition folders as a child from an aunt and as a kid i filled holes have since upgraded to newer and better albums, but wanted to complete at least the first edition set, as well as this particular folder from the 2nd edition if possible. If this is news to you, great! if you are aware of this already, great! if you have one you don't want to part with, great! Just curious at this point how many actually survived I rarely see them at all and when I do it's pretty ratty. the one pictured I found on the internet and it's kind of a "museum piece" from someone else's collection. hahaha. any that I have seen have been far worse than this one, far far worse.
Here is my 1940 Edition Indian Head Cent Folder. It is No. 9003. I have had it all my life (since about 1950 anyway) and my collection is in it. I want to get a new one but my wife keeps telling me that this book represents me and my hobby and I should just leave it alone.
I feel ya on that, If I upgrade the folders I have to nicer condition ones for the "folder collection", I'm still keeping the ones I had as a child, maybe start using them again too at some point! I stopped using them because they were getting worse and worse and I didn't want to destroy them further and, of course the newer albums are really nice. this is sort of a side project collection I started after moving into the front and back view albums because it so much nicer and less removing of the coins, and this version of the type set has become my white whale or holy grail, the problem is every one I happen to come across is in really bad shape and I've passed on them. Because it was oversized they were all in much worse shape than the normal size folders after 80 years of life. lol. that folder also cost a dollar in 1943 when the regular sized folders were 25 cents, it didn't sell well which is why a year later they went to the two folder set version in the standard size with a small denomination folder and the large denomination folder and split it to an 9026A and 9026B for 25 cents each. also there was a 9026C that was the booklet for the set, then there's a slip cover, I can't figure out if that came with one of the A, B, or C, or if it was it's own part number, but I think it was with the booklet. I don't think they do the booklet or the slipcover anymore and just make a newer version of the A and B. Anyways, the 9026 A-B-C sets are the more common and much easier to find version, as it stayed like that from 1944 onward.
This is very cool, I will keep my eye out for you, and thank you for posting an interesting thread as the majority of the other threads I have seen lately are complete hack and make me wanna bang my head against a wall.
