Thought of lehigh when I found out yesterday they keep a box of toned coins hidden in the back. Most were over the top blackish toned, but three of the nickels looked like this one - more subtle toning. So I bought them - so lehigh you cost me $12 yesterday, but I enjoyed it. I also found out that my lighting is insufficient to photograph the toning. It turns out that the sun peaked out today so I ran in and did about 5/6 shots of this coin and another - then the sun hid again. I found the best diffuser was the white sheer I have on the back door. Now I need to work on some better lighting in door. Enjoy and please your comment on a grade for the coin. Did this just for fun - so enjoy.
As a rule I don't care for toned coins. But if there is a group that appeals to me it's nickels that have the brownish toning like yours. I'm not sure of the cause but my money would be the copper in the alloy.
Boy - I'll go along with that. Willing to bet this was an album toned coin - same for the other two. As it is it was about the toning and not the grade. I am not sure either Kanga - could be the alloy. I know I have seen several buff's and jeff's with the subtle light brown or goldenish type toning. I do like them like that.
I tried some of the GE reveal bulbs several months ago and could not get it as well as this. They still hide the toning. Will still have to work on things.
