I'm waiting on my scale to come in the mail so sadly I can't say it's weight. Do you think this is missing clad or just worn down? It seems in pretty good condition. I can't tell. Looking at the pictures, the "liberty" on the face looks like it could be doubled? Idk I used my girlfriends phone camera. I dont have my digital scope in yet either. If you think it's an error, what could the value be?
No to missing clad layer. What you have is environment damage/ toning. As far as a doubled die im not seeing it with the pics provided.
Also to help identify missing clad layers get you a digital scale weigh the coin and compare the weight its supposed to be. I'm not sure what dimes weigh for missing clad layer but for example a quarter weighs 5.61 grams my missing clad layer weighs 4.63 grams so there is a bit of a good weight difference.
And missing clad layer usually occurs on one side of a clad coin. Here are examples from my collection -
Here are my metal detected clad and nickels. Both made of Cupro-Nickel which are affected by environmental exposure toning. This is why many people think it's missing the clad.
Damn, you have a large natural/non mint error collection! I'm sure they will all have collectors value now that there taking away coins completely. At least it seems that way. Thank you for the comparisons. I'll check here before I ask about clad in the future. I thought myself it should only be on one side because that's logical, but I wasn't certain.
