Found this 1996 P Washington 25c coin with what appears to be multiple die breaks/cracks to the obverse and reverse. Is this what I'm seeing? These are the best pictures I have. The anomalies appear to all be raised: Through the 1 in the date: Through the E in LIBERTY and top of the head: Between the DO in DOLLAR. The die crack/break also seems to have a chip associated with the anomaly: Through the AM in AMERICA, the top of the wing, the M in UNUM and to the top of the eagle head: Through the D in UNITED: Thanks for any input. ~Rob
I've seen a few now but not multiple on both sides. The coin doesn't appear to be in too bad of shape for circulated. Not a whole lot of DDD or MD... are the dies just "victims of circumstance" or well used and "gave up the ghost" so to speak. I guess I'm asking what are the chances of two dies cracking in multiple places? Thanks for your response Paddy. ~Rob
My scope has too much magnification on lowest setting. This is especially true with the larger coins. Had I known before I got it I'd of purchased one with lower magnification. I can try to add using my phone... ~Rob
The cracks through the LIBERTY and DOLLAR almost line up. Off just a little bit. Thought might run through the rim but they don't as far as I can tell. ~Rob
They seem to get close. As I look at the coin more I see a possible common point of origin above the S in STATES, extending through the D in UNITED and then another direction through the ST in STATES and E in EPU and then the P in PLURIBUS. Also looks like a possible crack from the corner of the E down to the U in UNUM. Can't quite find a spot where they connect but close. Looks like the northern portion of the reverse could be a die crack rim to rim connection. If enough agree then that is what it will be. If no agreement then so shall it be. Either way I'm keeping it.
I've not seen so many die cracks in one modern coin before. Neat. I bet that die exploded not long after putting out that quarter.
Thanks, Nut! Yeah, I saw the one between the D and O... then found another, and another... Didn't really look again until Inspector43 said something... ~Rob
