Two rare ‘hons’, gold coins minted to commemorate the coronation of warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji in June 1674, will be on display at a three-day exhibition being held under the aegis of Pune-based International Collector’s Society of Rare Items (ICSRI).

Billed as part of only seven existing coins of the particular genre, the round shaped hons weigh around 2.8 gm each and are little smaller than a 25 paise coin in size, ICSRI president Shrinivas Bhat told mediapersons. The exhibition will commence at Sonal Hall on Karve Road from Saturday. This would be the first public display of the coins in Pune, he claimed.....

Ah, my bad. Cheers. I think I've got a counterfeit one of them lurking in a box somewhere.

Thank for sharing this interesting article with us.

I was visiting "Prince of Wales" museum in Bombay several years ago and remember seeing one of these Hons in there collection. In those days, the museum also produced very limited numbers of gold replicas in a presentation folder. I purchased couple of those presentation folders from their visitor centre.

Couple of years back, I saw one gold Hon appeared in a CNG's auction and that's the only record of this coin being offered in any public auction.

Indeed, an extremely rare and a very historical coin.

    Regards,
    Ballabh Garg
