Hello all, I was wondering if this 1788 Vermont copper coin has a variety to it? I tried looking online and was unsuccessful finding varieties and how to distinguish them. Also it does have quite a few scratch marks on the reverse, Will this drop value significantly? I’ve seen a few sold on eBay for a few hundred that are barely visible and some have corrosion damage. Would these inflicted scratches be worse on the sale? I guess it comes down to what variety it is if any or just the original coin. It seems all the ones sold on eBay have a variety and rarity To them so I am only to assume this one may have one as well? Thank you in advance and you all rock!
Maybe this site will help a little. https://coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/ColCoinIntros/VT-Copper.intro.html Edit. Sorry, but IMO the scratches on the reverse are very noticeable and will significantly lower the value of the coin.
Very Nice !! I'll do some research . I should know this living only one state away from me . Here's the same site. Starting where the Coins start . The words, cinquefoils ( stars), dots, and Bust are Key here . https://coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/ColCoinText/VT-Copper.2.html
Lol well you found it the RR-16 R-1. Now my question is, is it worth what it should be if it were graded in VF due to the reverse scratches
Funny you have a Vermont copper. My wife drives there almost every week , The fall foliage is Awesome NOW !
No I did not get it yet looking at around 160$ but wondering if it’s worth it do to scratches on the obverse!
If it was my money I'd wait for a better coin. I'd rather have a problem free coin in my collection even it costs more. I wouldn't spend $150 on that coin with all those scratches on it. Just my opinion.
I say there are better ones out there but their like up to $300 more . It depends on your wallet too . I might wait as well . I mean how long can it take to save $150 more for a better one . Maybe graded as well . I'm rambling here. Sorry .
I'd wait. For comparison, I paid less then $100 for each of these (yes, even the Fugio), and a couple additional ones I've picked up since I made this display. Bargains are out there if you're patient, and know where to look.... As for the coin in the OP, I'd offer $50-60, and explain how the graffiti affects the value immensely.
