I posted this one the US forum for grading help, but think this might be the best place to ask the question. Is this some type of mint error or do you think post mint. The answer will determine if I keep the coin or return to dealer. Thanks
It is the start of a lamination. The section to the left may be part of the lamination that peeled off.
I have $42 invested. Is it a keeper or do I return it and search for a better coin. It's for a type set collection.
I agree! With the planchet flaw and what looks like a weak Reverse, you would be better off returning it. It may be the picture and lighting but the Reverse looks like it may have been cleaned and possibly whizzed. There are better 1858 FE's to be had at similar or even lower prices! Frank
I would try and replace it with a better grade coin and it looks more to me like post mint damage i think the coin was put to a little circulation damage. JazzcoinsJoe
